Star Wars Theory Reveals How Starfighter Brings Mara Jade Into Canon

A new fan theory suggests Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter might finally bring the popular Star Wars Legends character Mara Jade into official canon. Mara Jade first appeared in Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire trilogy as the Force-sensitive wife of Luke Skywalker, and fans have long hoped she would be incorporated into the main Star Wars storyline. Currently, she remains outside of official canon, which disappoints many Star Wars enthusiasts.

Recently, a new report has sparked speculation that Mara Jade will soon officially appear in Star Wars: Starfighter, which is being directed by Shawn Levy. The report also indicates that Amy Adams’ character in the 2027 Star Wars movie will possess abilities connected to the Force.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, who posted details on social media, Keri Russell’s character in the upcoming Starfighter movie will be a Jedi and the mother of Flynn Gray’s teenage character, a co-lead in the film.

This has caused speculation that Adams might be portraying the established version of Mara Jade, while some believe Gray’s character could secretly be the son of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to hit cinemas on May 28, 2027. Directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie features Ryan Gosling as a skilled pilot in the Star Wars universe. He’s assigned the job of transporting a significant (though the reasons are unclear) young teenager, played by Owen Gray.

Adams will be acting alongside Gosling and Gray in the upcoming space-traveling story. Joining them are Morbius star Matt Smith and X actress Mia Goth

The Mara Jade Star Wars: Starfighter Theory Explained

Information about Star Wars: Starfighter is limited, but rumors suggest Flynn’s character might also be sensitive to the Force. The character is reportedly between 12 and 13 years old during the events of the film.

This suggests that casting Amy Adams as Mara Jade could fit with the established timeline. Considering Starfighter takes place after Luke Skywalker’s death, if Flynn’s character is Luke’s son, Mara and Luke would have needed to meet at least ten years before those events.

Based on the official timeline, the movie is set approximately five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker (leading some to speculate that we might see an older Rey appear).

As a huge Star Wars fan, I always found it interesting that Rise of Skywalker takes place just a year after the events of The Last Jedi. And if you think about it, Luke actually went into hiding, you know, started that self-imposed exile, a full six years *before* The Last Jedi even happened. It’s little details like that that really build out the timeline!

That means roughly 12 years pass between Luke going into hiding and the story in Star Wars: Starfighter. This timeframe allows a child actor like Flynn Gray’s character to realistically portray a teenager, matching the age of the movie’s main teenage character.

So, if Amy Adams plays Gray’s mother (which has been suggested before), it’s possible that Gray is actually Luke Skywalker’s son, and Adams is portraying Mara Jade.

It’s also worth noting that there have been rumors for the past few months indicating that Lucasfilm is considering adding Mara Jade to the official Star Wars storyline.

Right now, this idea is just a theory. But, the groundwork exists for Lucasfilm to bring this popular hero from Legends into the main Star Wars storyline, if they choose to do so.
