Spider-Man: Brand New Day Reveals Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula

Spider-Man is facing a challenging new adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Marvel hasn’t released any official previews yet, pictures of related merchandise are already appearing online, giving fans a sneak peek.

The latest details reveal three villains Spider-Man will face in the new film: Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula. Scorpion is played by Michael Mando, who originally appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This time, however, his character, Mac Gargan, isn’t just a regular criminal—he’s a fully-powered supervillain in the Scorpion suit. It’s somewhat unexpected to see him return, especially since Sony and Marvel seemed to have dropped plans for a team-up involving the Sinister Six.

Boomerang and Tarantula are the latest characters joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Boomerang, whose real name is Frederick Myers, is a lesser-known villain first created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. He gained some popularity as a member of the Sinister Six in the critically acclaimed comic series Sinister Foes of Spider-Man. This version of the Sinister Six was made up of less powerful villains – including Beetle, Shocker, Overdrive, and Speed Demon – who teamed up for robberies that were often more humorous than threatening.

You know, as a comic book and movie fan, I’ve come across a lot of obscure villains, and Tarantula is definitely one of them. It’s funny, because the name and the whole idea of a ‘Tarantula’ have been used for at least six different characters in Marvel comics over the years. They’re usually not major threats – more like street-level bad guys – but they are impressively agile and they’ve got these cool retractable blades built into their costumes. It’s a neat concept, even if they don’t always get the spotlight.
