An actor from the upcoming Sony film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, suggests that what fans loved about the original movie – its innovative style – will be even more impressive in the sequel.
As a huge fan of the Spider-Verse movies, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the conclusion of Miles Morales’ story. It’s been amazing watching him become Spider-Man and team up with Spider-People from all sorts of different universes. It’s been three years since Across the Spider-Verse came out, and I’m so glad to hear from Jake Johnson that the final installment will be worth the wait – I can’t wait to see what they’ve created!
In an interview with Screen Rant’s Ash Crossan for The Dink, actor Shameik Moore expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming movie. He shared that based on what he’s seen, it’s incredibly good and engaging – a sentiment echoed from previous installments. Moore voices Peter B. Parker in the Spider-Verse films, where he plays Miles Morales’ somewhat reluctant mentor.
Crossan asked Johnson what fans would be most excited to see after the last film’s dramatic ending. Johnson replied that the action sequences are incredibly well-done and worth waiting for, adding that the team behind them consistently delivers a great experience he’s proud to be involved with.
The end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse finds Miles Morales unexpectedly transported to Earth-42, a world where his Uncle Aaron is still alive, but Miles is the Prowler instead. As Miles navigates this new reality, Gwen Stacy gathers both familiar and new allies to try and locate him. Adding to the complexity, Miles learns his father’s death is considered a fixed point in the multiverse – changing it could destroy his entire universe, leaving him with a difficult choice.
The 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse revitalized the Spider-Man story with its stunning and unique 3D animation. Both this movie and its 2023 sequel feature Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ parents, and Across the Spider-Verse added new voice actors to the cast, including Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya, Issa Rae, and Karan Soni.
Let’s be real, Into the Spider-Verse absolutely deserved its Oscar for Best Animated Feature (though its sequel wasn’t so lucky, losing to The Boy and the Heron). And honestly, we’ve been waiting forever for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It’s been delayed a lot – apparently, that incredible animation takes a ton of work, and they also needed to rework some of the story. But the good news? We finally have a release date: 2027! It’s a long wait, but hopefully, it’ll be worth it.
Since then, Sony Pictures Animation has become a leading animation studio, especially after the huge success of KPop Demon Hunters on Netflix last summer. A sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is already planned, which could make it another major franchise for Sony. But according to Johnson, fans don’t need to worry about Spider-Man; exciting new content is still on the way.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release theatrically on June 18, 2027.
