The upcoming movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is set to have its most ambitious story yet, but it also needs to resolve a lingering plot point from an earlier film involving the Chaos Emeralds. The movie will center around the introduction of two new characters: Amy, who will team up with Sonic and his friends, and Metal Sonic, who will serve as the main villain.
The new trailer confirmed that Jim Carrey will be back as Dr. Robotnik, and that the powerful Chaos Emeralds will be central to the plot. These magical gems were last used by Sonic and Shadow to transform into their super forms at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. After that, they disappeared, along with the Master Emerald, and haven’t been mentioned since.
Although Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will explain what happened to certain characters, another puzzle remains unsolved. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic and Tails travel to Siberia looking for the Master Emerald and find a temple with an owl statue and unusual symbols. This discovery strangely links Sonic’s world to Earth and suggests that more characters from the games might appear in the future.
The markings on a Siberian owl statue appear to be written in Babylonian, a language that originally appeared in the 2006 video game Sonic Riders. That game also introduced the Babylon Rogues – Jet the Hawk, Storm the Albatross, and Wave the Swallow. There’s a connection between the Chaos Emeralds and the Babylonians, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 seems to reinforce that link.
Why The Babylon Rogues Should Show Up In Sonic 4
The Babylon Rogues are a group of three characters in the Sonic games who come from the ancient Babylonian civilization – a people who lived thousands of years before the main Sonic storylines. They’re known as skilled thieves and professional racers, and they get around on special hoverboards called Extreme Gear. You’ll mostly find them in the Sonic Riders series of games.
The Sonic movies have established a significant link between Knuckles, Tails, and the Chaos Emeralds. The ancient writing on the owl statue in the second film is a playful reference to the three, but more importantly, it suggests a deep connection to the Emeralds’ backstory. This provides a great opportunity for future films to delve into their history and fully integrate them into the movie universe.
The end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 hinted at a large story for the next movie. Introducing the Babylonians now wouldn’t fit well and would overcrowd the film. It would be better to tease them in a post-credits scene, potentially setting up a future Sonic Riders movie.
Why Sonic Riders Is The Perfect Follow-Up To Sonic The Hedgehog 4
I’m really excited about the new Sonic the Hedgehog 4 game, but I’ve heard it’s going to be a pretty intense story with Metal Sonic and maybe even time travel! It sounds like it’s going to be a huge deal. Honestly, I think a Sonic Riders movie afterward would be a nice breather – something a little more lighthearted and fun after all that drama. It would be a good way to balance things out.
As a huge Sonic fan, I think tying the Babylon Rogues directly to the Chaos Emeralds would be amazing for the movies. It would really flesh out the world and explain that weird Babylonian writing on the owl statue in the second film – something that always bothered me! Plus, it would give us a proper introduction to those three, staying true to how they are in the games.
The movie could also do a better job of connecting Sonic’s world with Earth, perhaps by explaining the origin of the owl statue in Siberia. The games feature a detailed history of the Babylonians traveling to different worlds, and a future film could explore this, potentially incorporating the Chaos Emeralds as well.
If Sonic the Hedgehog 4 includes a scene after the credits, the Babylon Rogue Wave team – Jet, Storm, and Wave – would be a great addition to the movie series. They could explain unanswered questions from the second film and offer opportunities for exciting gameplay-inspired moments, like character interactions and fast-paced racing.
