The latest trailer for the Scrubs revival is here, and it finally addresses something fans have been wondering about. The show is returning after 16 years with nine new episodes that will replace the previously released Med School season, which is now considered unofficial and won’t be part of the show’s main story.
While the recent big changes to Season 9 haven’t ruined much that was good, some previously logical storylines no longer make sense. The Scrubs revival is going in a different direction, and fans quickly noticed this in the first trailer. They’ve been hoping it was a mistake, but the latest trailer confirms the changes are intentional.
New ‘Scrubs’ Revival Trailer Appears to Show JD & Elliot Talking About Their Former Relationship
At the end of Scrubs: Med School, Sarah Chalke’s Elliot Reid and Zach Braff’s J.D. were happily married and expecting a baby. But early previews of the show’s revival hinted that their relationship didn’t last, as neither character wore a wedding ring. While they reconciled by the end of Season 8 – which is still considered official canon – the revival reveals that wasn’t a true happy ending. It’s taken until now, with the show’s return, for the story to address this surprising and emotional change to what happened after Med School.
The newest trailer shows Elliot and JD in a vulnerable moment. Elliot, visibly upset, tells JD, “I don’t know how we do this,” and he responds with a reassuring, “We’ll figure it out.” While it’s unclear what they’re facing, it doesn’t seem to be about a patient. JD’s following line – “Let’s go help your patient” – feels like a distraction. It’s more likely that the revival’s storyline, which involves JD returning to Sacred Heart after many years and reconnecting with Elliot, is the source of their emotional exchange, especially given their history.
‘Scrubs’ Has Already Given Me Hope That JD & Elliot Will Get (Another) Happy Ending

ABC
In the new season, JD and Elliot will have to rebuild their friendship and professional relationship, moving past their romantic connection. While they may have even gotten married at some point, it seems their marriage didn’t last. Starting the revival with them separated makes sense, considering how much the show relied on their on-again, off-again relationship. Hopefully, they’ll eventually find their way back together.

A quick scene in the trailer, following their heartfelt talk, gives me hope for their future. We see them walking through Sacred Heart, arms linked and smiling. While it probably isn’t a preview of them getting back together, it definitely shows there are still strong emotions between them. Even when discussing how to work together, their conversation is surprisingly kind. Whatever drove them apart after Season 8 must have been a serious and unavoidable issue. Hopefully, time has healed their wounds, and Scrubs‘ most complicated romance can finally have a satisfying conclusion.
