Fans can now officially revisit the first movie in the series, as well as all the other films from the original storyline.
According to Kodansha USA’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, the next Sailor Moon manga box set will include volumes 7-10 of Sailor Moon, plus the first two volumes of the earlier series, Codename: Sailor V. You can find more details about the deluxe box set below.
Sailor Moon & Codename: Sailor V Get New Release for North American Collectors
I first discovered this amazing story back in 1991, when it originally appeared in Kodansha’s RunRun magazine! It’s a really sweet one-shot about Minako Aino, a 13-year-old girl who’s a total romantic at heart. The story follows her journey of discovering she’s actually Sailor Venus, and it all starts when she meets this incredibly cool talking cat named Artemis!
Although Codename: Sailor V didn’t receive much praise from critics on its own, it was essential in creating the groundwork for Sailor Moon and its later success. Because of this, Codename: Sailor V has become a significant part of manga history and popular culture.
The Codename: Sailor V manga has been published in several different formats over the years. Originally released as tankobon volumes in 1993 and 1994, the final volume wasn’t available in that format until 1997. In 2004, a shinsoban edition collected the series in two volumes, adding a sixteenth volume to the total. This was followed by a collector’s edition, the kanzenban, ten years later. Most recently, a smaller paperback collection, the bunkobon, was released in 2019.
The Naoko Takeuchi Collection first appeared in July with a release featuring the first volume of the series. This collection offers more precise translations compared to previous versions, staying closer to the original Japanese text.
Sailor Moon Continues to Dominate Shoujo Manga & Anime More Than 30 Years Later
It’s remarkable that after over thirty years, characters like Sailor Moon still have so many devoted fans. The franchise hasn’t really lost popularity at all. In fact, Usagi Tsukino, better known as Sailor Moon, was recently named one of the most influential women in Japan.
I was so excited to see the results of this survey! While characters like Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service, Fujiko from Lupin the Third, and Nezuko from Demon Slayer all got some love, Sailor Moon really stood out as the most popular choice. People had all sorts of reasons – some always dreamed of wearing a Sailor Guardian outfit, and others just loved how photogenic the iconic poses are. One woman even told NEXER Inc. that they just ‘look great in photos,’ and honestly, I totally get it!
