Rumored Harry Potter Reboot Actor Kevin McKidd Reacts to Arthur Weasley Casting Speculation

The TV series revival has filled most of the key roles, but they haven’t announced who will play Arthur Weasley yet.

Mark Williams first appeared as Arthur Weasley in the Harry Potter movies, starting with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002. The new Harry Potter TV series will follow a similar order, as Arthur isn’t introduced until the second book. Kevin McKidd, who is reportedly being considered for the role, recently discussed the casting rumors with Entertainment Weekly.

Kevin McKidd Reacts to Harry Potter’s Arthur Weasley Speculation

Having recently finished his role on the popular show Grey’s Anatomy, the actor will now have more availability to begin filming Harry Potter.

McKidd acknowledged he’d heard about it. He added that while he wouldn’t rule anything out, he’s a huge Harry Potter fan.

I’m so excited about the new Harry Potter series! It started buzzing around online when fans noticed Ginny Weasley, played by Gracie Cochrane, followed a star from Grey’s Anatomy on Instagram. Apparently, that’s exactly how the last big casting rumor started, so everyone’s thinking this could be legit! It’s fun to see the clues and speculate about who’s joining the cast.

This isn’t the first time this Scottish actor has been connected to the series. He was originally offered the role of the werewolf Fenrir Greyback in the final two Harry Potter movies, Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2. Ultimately, the role went to the late Dave Legeno.

Before I joined Grey’s Anatomy, I was on a show called Journeyman that was constantly in danger of being canceled. While waiting to hear if it would be renewed for a second season, the director of the final two Harry Potter movies, David Yates, offered me a role. I had to turn it down because I was still hoping Journeyman would get picked up. Unfortunately, it didn’t.

You know, it still bothers me that I didn’t get to be in the last couple of Harry Potter movies. I was up for a part – I think it was some kind of werewolf – and it would have been amazing! I still get a little sad thinking about what could have been.

I’d be thrilled to revisit the possibility of playing Arthur Weasley. I was actually considered for the role once before, so hearing those rumors is really exciting, and I’d be very happy if it became a reality.
