Ridley Scott’s New Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi The Dog Stars Finally Unveils First Look

He’s known for directing several science fiction movies, and he plans to continue doing so. His upcoming film is a science fiction story set in a world after a global catastrophe.

Esquire recently shared a first glimpse of the upcoming sci-fi adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, The Dog Stars. The director has promised the film will be surprising and focus on themes of hope and overcoming challenges.

Ridley Scott Says The Dog Stars Will Surprise People

The Dog Stars takes place after a devastating flu pandemic has wiped out most of the world’s population. The story centers on a solitary pilot who survives with his dog and a former marine. Their quiet life is disrupted when the pilot receives a radio transmission, revealing the presence of others and forcing them to confront a new threat.

In the film The Dog Stars, Jacob Elordi plays Hig, a pilot who flies a small plane nicknamed ‘The Beast’ and has a dog named Jasper. Josh Brolin appears as Bangley, a hardened former Marine. Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce also star in the movie.

Scott believes his latest science fiction film, set in a post-apocalyptic world, will be unexpected. He explained that he feels there have been too many movies focusing on the end of the world, especially considering his own history with the famously bleak film, Blade Runner. He noted that Blade Runner was incredibly dark and offered no relief from its grim setting.

I’m really happy with how we conveyed a strong sense of hope,” Scott explained. “The message is essentially ‘things will be alright’ if you make good choices – a bit like the saying ‘God helps those who help themselves’.

I’m really excited about this new film! The director hinted that audiences will be genuinely surprised and captivated, and even charmed by it. They also mentioned there’s some violence, but overall, it sounds like a really compelling experience.
