Now that season one of Spider-Noir has finished airing, Prime Video is preparing to launch its next superhero show this week. Spider-Noir originally took the place of another big project from Prime Video – The Boys, a hugely popular series that recently concluded.
Spider-Noir is a unique superhero story, separate from the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. It focuses solely on this version of Spider-Man from across the multiverse. Notably, Nicolas Cage reprises his role as Spider-Man Noir, a character he previously portrayed in the critically acclaimed animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
You can watch Spider-Noir on Prime Video, either in color or black and white. While it has the action you’d expect from a Spider-Man story, it’s primarily a hard-boiled detective tale set in 1930s New York City. Luckily for fans, another great Marvel series is coming to Prime Video soon.
Now that Spider-Noir has ended, Batman: Caped Crusader is the perfect show to take its place. Season 2 of the DC animated series arrives on Prime Video with all ten episodes dropping on Friday, July 31st. Though it’s a different style and features a different hero, Batman: Caped Crusader shares more similarities with Spider-Noir than any other show currently available on the streaming service.
Batman: Caped Crusader Is Spider-Noir’s Perfect Replacement
I loved Spider-Noir, and I think Batman: Caped Crusader is exactly what we needed next! It’s awesome to see another superhero story set back in time with a real detective vibe – just like Spider-Noir. This new Batman show really leans into those classic, early comic book adventures, putting Gotham firmly in the 1940s. Honestly, it has a similar look and feel to Spider-Noir which is fantastic. The biggest difference? Well, one’s live-action and the other animated, plus of course, it’s Batman instead of Spider-Man!
Ben Reilly, played by Cameron Cage as The Spider, is noticeably funnier and more sarcastic than Hamish Linklater’s portrayal of Batman. Linklater’s Batman is intensely serious and reserved, only occasionally showing Bruce Wayne’s more playful side. Cage, however, injects a lot of energetic and slightly chaotic humor into his role, which stands out within the show’s overall style. If you enjoyed the gritty, street-level storytelling, detective work, and vintage look of Spider-Noir and are looking for a similar superhero series in its own separate universe, then Batman: Caped Crusader would be a great choice.
Why Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Is Worth Watching On Prime Video
I’ve been following the early buzz around Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2, and so far things look really promising! As of today, it’s sitting at an impressive 83% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, based on six reviews. I even gave it an 8 out of 10 in my review for ScreenRant. While the season isn’t perfect – some episodes felt a little slow or didn’t quite move the main story forward – there’s so much to love. The fresh takes on classic DC villains are fantastic, and honestly, this version of the Joker is genuinely chilling.
Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader is building on a strong start. The first season established the show’s unique take on Gotham City and its classic DC characters. The new 10 episodes will explore Batman’s development in compelling ways. As a spiritual successor to the beloved Batman: The Animated Series and a great alternative to Spider-Noir, Prime Video viewers will likely find plenty to enjoy in the new season.
