With Prime Video nailing the casting of Kratos for their God of War series, they’re now well-positioned to find the ideal actor to play Thor.
The upcoming Prime Video series based on God of War will adapt the Norse mythology storyline from the games, and will portray Kratos as physically smaller than his stature in the game. While Kratos is nearly 6’4″ in the games, he appears much shorter when alongside characters like Tyr and Thor. The show needs to accurately reflect this difference in size to stay true to the source material.
For the Prime Video adaptation of God of War to succeed, the casting of Thor and Tyr is crucial. With Ryan Hurst already set to play Kratos, one actor particularly stands out as a strong choice for Thor.
After Ryan Hurst, Prime Video Should Cast Another Legacy Actor From The God Of War Games
Ryan Hurst, known for voicing Thor in God of War Ragnarök, will now portray Kratos in the upcoming live-action series on Prime Video. Since Christopher Judge famously voiced Kratos in the games, it would be fitting if he followed a similar path and played Thor in the show.
Although it’s a long shot, Christopher Judge could be a great addition to the series. He clearly understands the source material and excels at playing powerful, god-like characters. Given the positive reaction to Ryan Hurst’s casting, fans would probably be thrilled to see Christopher Judge as Thor.
In Terms Of Sheer Size, A Rising Action Star Should Play Thor In God Of War
In the God of War games, Thor is noticeably taller than Kratos. Kratos is around 6 feet 4 inches tall (the same height as the actor who plays him, Ryan Hurst), but Thor is over 7 feet tall. Actor Olivier Richters, who is 7 feet 2 inches tall, would be a great physical match for the character. Richters is becoming well-known for his roles in Reacher and the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
Now that he’s gaining more experience as an actor, he appears ready to tackle a more challenging role in the upcoming God of War adaptation.
Who Else Could Play Thor In Prime Video’s God Of War?
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, known for playing “The Mountain” on Game of Thrones, has a powerful build similar to the character of Thor. He’s also around 6 feet 8 inches tall, which makes him much taller than both Kratos and his Game of Thrones co-star, Ryan Hurst.
There’s also talk that Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his role in Severance, could be cast in the role. At 6’5″, he clearly has the physical presence, and his work on the Apple TV+ show demonstrates he’s a talented enough actor to pull off the character on television.
No matter who is cast as Thor in the upcoming God of War series on Prime Video, the show’s creators likely will make a good decision. Their successful casting of Ryan Hurst as Kratos suggests they know how to choose the right actors.
