Pokémon Winds & Waves Legendary Monsters Are Truly Fearsome

Although Pokémon Winds & Waves isn’t expected to release on the Nintendo Switch 2 for over a year, information about the game’s Legendary Pokémon is now available, and they seem incredibly powerful. Traditionally, each new generation features a pair of main Legendary Pokémon that have been featured on the cover of Pokémon games since the original Gold & Silver in 1999. What new creatures has GameFreak created for the tenth generation?

We haven’t seen a lot about Pokémon Winds & Waves yet, but I like what’s been revealed. The Pokémon Company gave us a first look at the new starter Pokémon in February for Pokémon Day, and announced the game will continue the open-world style of gameplay. It’s set in a completely new region made up of islands spread across a large ocean.

If you’ve been following Pokémon news, you probably already know that the recent Winds & Waves trailer didn’t reveal anything new – everything shown had already leaked online. Because of this, we can be pretty sure the leaked details about the game’s Legendary Pokémon are accurate. Let’s take a look at what we’ve learned so far.

Previous leaks about the game Winds & Waves – including details about the game map and gym count – suggest the two Legendary Pokémon will be themed around storms and water, fitting with the game’s overall concept.

Okay, so this new Pokémon is basically an ancient guardian spirit that lives on this super stormy island. It’s like a guide for anyone traveling by wind, but it’s really picky. Apparently, you can only get its help if you’ve proven you’re a good Pokémon trainer by raising a Seed Pokémon properly. Sounds like a challenge, but totally worth it if you can earn its trust!

Some fans think we’ve already glimpsed this Pokémon briefly, hidden in the shadow of a cloud during the game’s initial trailer. The new Water-type Pokémon is described as an ancient, wise being who lives on a secluded island, protected by strong currents. It represents balance and offers guidance, and will assess whether the player is worthy to continue their journey.

The new Pokémon game seems to have a unique Pokémon called a “Seed Pokémon,” which isn’t the same as your initial Starter Pokémon. According to leaks, you receive this Pokémon early in the game and need to level it up before you can access the island where the Legendary Pokémon lives. What’s really interesting is that this island appears to be different for every player, changing based on how well you’ve trained your Seed Pokémon. Plus, the Seed Pokémon’s evolution will also be unique to each player, with different flower and fractal patterns, meaning no two players will have the same evolved form.

It’s still unclear how the new Seed Pokémon will fit into the overall story with the Legendary Pokémon, but this approach feels really innovative. I’m looking forward to battling these incredibly strong Pokémon when Winds & Waves is released in 2027.
