The game is growing with content from the new Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC, specifically introducing Mega Evolutions that were previously featured in the Mega Dimension expansion.
Mega Evolutions will remain a key part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game for some time. The next major Pokémon video games, Pokémon Winds & Waves, aren’t expected until 2027 – potentially over a year from now. Luckily, Pokémon Legends: Z-A introduced many new Mega Evolutions, and the Mega Dimension downloadable content added even more.
Pokémon TCG’s Abyss Eye Expansion Is Introducing Mega Darkrai
A new trailer released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel announced the upcoming Abyss Eye expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It will be available in Japan on May 22, 2026. The trailer showcased Mega Darkrai, a powerful new form appearing in the Pokémon Legends: Z-A game, and a preview of its corresponding trading card.
The card set from Abyss Eye will become available in North America and Europe a few months after its release in Japan. The set might also be given a new name in those regions, potentially to better reflect the abilities of Mega Darkrai.
The newest Pokémon Trading Card Game set, called Chaos Rising, is coming to North America and Europe, with some stores already receiving it on May 9th. The previous set, Perfect Order, came out on March 27th, meaning we probably won’t see another new set for at least a few months.
Mega Dimension Mega Evolutions Are Coming to the Pokémon TCG
With Mega Darkrai appearing in Abyss Eye, the first new Mega Evolution for Pokémon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension DLC has arrived, hinting that more are on the way. Players can expect to see Mega Evolutions of Pokémon like Baxcalibur, Zeraora, and Staraptor soon.
We can also expect to see Z-Moves and Mega Evolutions from the Mega Dimension storyline, including Mega Lucario Z.
So, what about Mega Darkrai’s attack? It costs two Dark Energy, does 110 damage, and if the opponent’s Pokémon already have damage on them, it deals another 110 damage.
Okay, so this Darkrai has a second attack that’s brutal. It costs three Dark Energy, but if the opponent’s Pokémon is already, like, poisoned, burned, or anything like that, it one-shots them instantly! Seriously powerful stuff. But, like with most Mega Evolutions, if you knock it out, your opponent gets three Prize cards, which is a pretty big risk.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while for the Pokémon Winds & Waves set to come out. Until then, Mega Evolutions will be key to keeping the Pokémon Trading Card Game interesting. Strong Pokémon like Mega Darkrai will definitely help, as they’re likely to become highly sought-after cards for both collectors and competitive players.
