To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the company is heavily focusing on its fans, particularly through merchandise. As part of this, they’re partnering with Uniqlo again to release a new collection of shirts inspired by classic designs.
The latest UT collection features 8-bit artwork inspired by the classic Pokémon games. Iconic characters like Pikachu and Charizard are prominently displayed, offering fans a nostalgic and stylish throwback. This collection is just one of many products being released to celebrate the brand’s 30th anniversary – a truly effective way to mark the occasion!
Uniqlo Tries on a New Wave of Pokémon T-Shirts With Original Game Designs
Uniqlo’s new Pokémon T-shirt collection takes a nostalgic look back at the very first games. The designs use the original 8-bit sprites from Pokémon Red and Blue, bringing back memories of those classic games and the Pokémon they introduced.
The adult-sized shirts come in four different designs. One features trainer Red with his Charmander on what looks like a phone’s home screen. Another showcases the Pokémon used by the original Gym leaders. The remaining two designs highlight Pikachu and its evolved form, Raichu, and a powerful image of the Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo on the front with Mew on the back, representing its origins.
The adult t-shirts feature classic, pixelated designs inspired by the original look of the characters from the Nintendo Game Boy, as they appeared 30 years ago. There’s also a collection for kids that uses the same pixelated style. The first of these shirts is a smaller version of the original Game Boy home screen design, printed on a light blue background.
We have three shirt options: one featuring a variety of Pokémon like Magikarp, Snorlax, Psyduck, Pikachu, Eevee, and Dragonite; another with different expressions of Pikachu, including a large, cheerful Pikachu on the back; and a black shirt with the Ghost-type Pokémon, Gengar.
In Japan, adult-sized shirts will cost about $13, and kids’ shirts will be around $6. Both are scheduled to be released in July 2026. The shirts will also become available in the U.S. later in the year, following a similar pattern as previous releases. These are just some of the many items planned for the 30th anniversary of Pokémon, celebrating the franchise’s origins and how it all began.
