Despite being announced three years ago, Amazon Prime Video seems to have put one of its planned The Boys spinoffs on the back burner. With The Boys ending after season five and Gen V canceled, the franchise is still expanding with several new shows. While Vought Rising is well-positioned to launch after being introduced in The Boys Season 5, another spinoff has been largely forgotten about.
As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m really excited about Season 5 focusing on characters like Soldier Boy and the very first Supes – you know, the ones originally injected with V1 like Stormfront and Bombsight. Apparently, a new show planned for 2027 will delve into the history of Vought and how Supes first appeared. But, there’s a bit of worry about the future of The Boys: Mexico; it hasn’t gotten the green light for another season yet, which is a little concerning.
The Boys: Mexico Has Been Ignored In The Boys
A new series expanding the world of The Boys is coming to Amazon Prime Video. Announced in November 2023, the show—from the creators of Blue Beetle and Miss Bala—will move the action outside of the United States. Diego Luna (Andor, Elysium) and Gael García Bernal (Old, Werewolf by Night) will both produce and star in the project.
Information about the Boys spinoff has been limited for the past three years, as focus has remained on The Boys, Gen V, and Vought Rising. In 2025, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke shared that Dunnet-Alcocer was working on scripts for The Boys: Mexico.
The showrunner hopes to see characters from The Boys appear in the upcoming The Boys: Mexico. He also confirmed that The Boys: Mexico will be set after the events of Season 5 of The Boys. In April 2026, he shared that the scripts for the Mexico City-based series have been submitted to Amazon, and the initial response has been positive.
Unlike the original The Boys comic, the new series The Boys: Mexico isn’t tied to specific storylines from the comics, giving it the freedom to explore fresh and surprising directions. Recent statements from Eric Kripke confirm the show is still in development and progressing well.
Despite the show’s global scope, The Boys hasn’t featured any superheroes outside of the United States so far. This means we don’t know what’s happening with Supes in other countries, though there might be hints about it within the series.
How The Boys: Mexico Might Have Been Set Up
With five seasons of The Boys and two seasons of Gen V, a number of Mexican-American characters have appeared who could play major roles in the upcoming The Boys: Mexico.
It would be great to see Supersonic’s history explored in more detail in The Boys: Mexico.
There’s been talk that The Boys: Mexico might feature superpowered drug cartels using Compound V to cross the border. This could expand the world of The Boys to include more international superheroes, something we haven’t seen much of before, considering Vought’s dominance in the US.
The possibility of El Diablo being real emerged after Translucent (Alex Hassell) died in The Boys, as Homelander falsely blamed his death on a supposed individual. The Boys: Mexico might confirm El Diablo’s existence and reveal him as a key figure in a dangerous cartel.
There’s a possibility Thomas Godolkin (played by Ethan Slater and Hamish Linklater) will appear in the new spinoff series. Recent information showed that, while working undercover as Cipher, Godolkin spent time at Vought’s office in Mexico City, potentially setting the stage for The Boys: Mexico and indicating Vought is expanding its global reach.
Fans loved Linklater in Season 2 of Gen V, and with that show ending, many would like to see him reprise his role as Cipher in The Boys: Mexico. Although Season 5 of The Boys has mainly been building up the Vought Rising spinoff, there have been subtle clues suggesting The Boys: Mexico might still happen.
We’re expecting more announcements soon! The current developments are really promising, and Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico might be the first of many new projects.
