Paul Rudd, known for his role in Anaconda, recently shared two mistakes he made while getting ready to film the popular 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The film, considered one of the best movies about breakups ever made, stars Rudd as Chuck (also known as Kunu), a somewhat oblivious surfing instructor. The movie also features Jason Segel, Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, and Jack McBrayer.
Paul Rudd recently shared a funny story on the podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend about some mishaps while filming in Hawaii. He explained that he tried to dye his hair grey in his 30s, thinking it would help with his role, but it didn’t go as planned. “I should have just worn a wig!” he joked to Conan O’Brien. Because his hair is naturally so dark, the dye ended up turning his hair reddish, which is why it appears that color in the movie. He admitted he had never dyed his hair before and didn’t know what he was doing, leading to another on-set issue.
I recall filming on O’ahu’s north shore, and when I arrived, I hadn’t gotten any color – no surprise there! They told me I needed a tan and suggested a spray tan place, but it was way down on the south side of the island, about a two-hour drive.
I arrived, immediately went for a spray tan, and then drove several more hours to the north shore where they were filming. I checked into my hotel and let everyone know I’d arrived, then jumped in the shower. I quickly learned you’re supposed to let a spray tan develop! It all washed off, and it was like a scene from the movie Psycho. They had to send me right back to get another one, which meant another two-hour drive. Getting from New York to Hawaii took around ten hours, but it took me even longer to get the spray tan done twice and back to the set! [Laughs]
Why Charlie Hunnam Rejected ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ Role

Universal Pictures
Many fans of Forgetting Sarah Marshall don’t realize that Charlie Hunnam (known for Monster — The Ed Gein Story) was originally offered the role of rock star Aldous Snow. In an interview with Collider, Hunnam shared that he ultimately turned down the part due to a personal crisis of confidence.

Jason Segel wrote ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ as a project for us to work on together, and he specifically created my character with me in mind. The initial read-through went really well, with Judd Apatow producing. At the time, I was struggling with my career and felt like I needed to take control of where it was headed, but things weren’t falling into place with what I wanted to do.
Jason and I were close friends, so he offered me the script, but I had to decline. It didn’t go over well with the people involved in the project, but I explained it wasn’t personal. I just needed to figure out what I wanted to do with my career and stay true to my own instincts. It was a difficult decision, and I had to firmly explain my reasons.
