The British crime drama Criminal Record premiered on January 10, 2024, and recently launched its second season on April 22. Starring Peter Capaldi (known from Doctor Who) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife), the show was initially very well-received, but Season 2 has surpassed expectations. Critics have given Criminal Record Season 2 a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a rare achievement.
This time, I selected a group of movies perfect for a weekend watch on Prime Video. I aimed for films that would work well as a three-movie marathon, but also stand on their own. My picks include a heartbreaking book-to-film adaptation, the newest movie in a popular horror series, and a high-octane action film originally produced by Prime Video.
During CinemaCon, Disney announced that Hailee Steinfeld, known for her roles in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Sinners, will voice the character Billie Doe. Rashida Jones, famous for The Office and Parks and Recreation, will play Billie’s mother, Alice. Disney also showed a sneak peek of Billie taking a personality test administered by a talking book and quill, which leads her to a hidden magical world. The film is scheduled to be released on November 25th, and many fans have pointed out similarities between it and the Disney Channel series The Owl House.
The new film from A24 and director David Lowery stars Anne Hathaway as a former pop star getting ready for a big comeback. But the movie is less about the performance itself and more about what happens while she prepares. A central story focuses on the complicated relationship between the singer and her old friend and costume designer, Sam Anselm (played by Michaela Coel), as past hurts resurface and put even more strain on their connection.
Season 3 of The Pitt will premiere in January 2027. However, the show won’t jump forward in time very far – the new season picks up just four months after the end of season 2. We’ll soon see who’s working at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency room as the weather turns colder.
Emerald Fennell’s new film adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting May 1st. While the movie sparked some debate, particularly regarding its cast, it still proved successful in theaters.
Now that filming for season two of Dexter: Resurrection is well underway in New York City, writer and executive producer Scott Reynolds has shared some details about the production, including some of the sets and props being used. On April 24th, marking the tenth day of filming, Reynolds posted a picture on X of a donut box from The Donut Pub with the message, “While some things change… some things stay the same“.
Even the best shows on Prime Video, which often outperform Netflix and other streaming services, rarely get a perfect score from critics. It’s unusual for any TV series to receive universally positive reviews; usually, at least one critic will have something negative to say, bringing the show’s Rotten Tomatoes score down to the high nineties.

As a huge Star Trek fan, I was really fascinated by how Picard dealt with the Borg. After Voyager ended, it seemed like they were mostly a thing of the past, but bringing back Seven of Nine and Hugh in Season 1 really showed the lasting impact on those who survived encounters with them. Then Season 2 threw a curveball with a new Borg Collective – it was amazing to see how even Federation principles could appeal to the Borg Queen! But Season 3… wow. That’s when the real Borg came back, determined to wipe out anyone standing in their way. It really drove home how Picard’s story was always tied to the Borg, ever since he was assimilated. The whole series felt like a final chapter for them in the Star Trek universe, and it was a really satisfying way to wrap up that part of the story.
