I’ve been a huge Johnny Depp fan for years, and it was really tough to watch his career stall after everything that happened in court. It’s uncertain if he’ll be back on top in Hollywood, but I think now’s a great time to revisit some of his more underrated work – even those times he played a version of himself! There’s a lot of great stuff people might have missed.
The latest issue of Fantastic Four, #15, with artwork by Humberto Ramos, promises a major adventure for Marvel’s First Family when it’s released on August 5, 2026. Marvel says the story will involve time travel, celebrating the team’s origins back in 1961 with the original Fantastic Four #1. The Fantastic Four will face their biggest challenges yet as they journey through different periods of their past, desperately trying to find a way back to the present. A dangerous enemy awaits them if they can return, and they’ll need help from an unexpected source to do so.
Early films often featured Westerns because they were popular and affordable to make. By the end of World War II, this led to what’s known as “The Golden Age of the Western.” Throughout the 1940s and 50s, Westerns were a dominant force in cinema, establishing the key themes we now associate with the genre. These themes typically revolved around ideas like the glorification of westward expansion, the brave cowboy hero, the pursuit of fairness, and stories of love and revenge.
Hulu hadn’t produced many dramatic series when it decided to adapt Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Handmaid’s Tale. The show immediately signaled its commitment to high quality by casting Elisabeth Moss – a well-known actress from popular series like The West Wing and Mad Men – in the lead role.
Rather than follow the order of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the show’s creator, Nick Santora, has chosen to adapt them out of sequence. Season three, premiering in February 2025, will be based on the ninth novel, Persuader. Season four is confirmed to adapt Child’s thirteenth book, Gone Tomorrow. This approach works well because the show is structured like a series of standalone stories, so jumping around doesn’t disrupt the overall plot. However, the upcoming season will be the first time the Prime Video series deviates from its existing pattern of adaptation.
Leaving Neverland is an HBO documentary in two parts that explores allegations of sexual abuse against Michael Jackson. Directed by Dan Reed, the film includes interviews with Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who share their experiences. It first appeared on HBO in 2019.
The DC Extended Universe, often called the Snyderverse, had a decade-long run, beginning with Man of Steel in 2013 and concluding with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Some films, like Wonder Woman, were consistently well-received, while others, such as The Flash, didn’t quite hit the mark. Despite its inconsistencies, the DCEU delivered some truly memorable scenes and moments.
I’ve been following Street Fighter since the 90s, and it’s amazing how well-known it still is – even people who don’t play games usually know Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Bison! So, when I heard they were making a new movie coming out in 2026, I was so excited! And the trailer? It looks incredible, showing off a lot of the characters we all love.
As a lifelong Marvel fan, it’s always fascinated me how the Avengers and X-Men started out so similarly – both first appeared in comics in September 1963. While both teams did well, the X-Men actually got a head start when it came to other media. I remember loving X-Men: The Animated Series when it came out in ’92, and they even had a movie in 2000! The Avengers took a little longer to really take off, and the X-Men stayed ahead of the game for quite a while.
Many classic and creatively ambitious science fiction films have come from the works of Philip K. Dick. Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, for example, draws inspiration from Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? And Steven Spielberg’s acclaimed film Minority Report is based on a short story by Dick with the same title.
