Disney is considering bringing back the Home Alone series. Sources say Macaulay Culkin, who originally played Kevin McCallister, recently met with Disney executives to propose a new sequel that would continue the story.
Macaulay Culkin Finally Interested in a Home Alone Sequel
Matt Belloni reported on The Town podcast that Disney is very interested in making another Home Alone movie. They’re actively trying to get the original star, Macaulay Culkin, to return, believing his involvement would significantly boost the film’s appeal.
It appears Macaulay Culkin might be coming back to the Home Alone series! After over three decades, he’s reportedly interested in revisiting the franchise and has even pitched a compelling story idea for a new sequel, according to sources.
Culkin probably showcased the same concept at his A Nostalgic Night event, which took place at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center.
Culkin described a scenario where his character is either widowed or divorced, raising a child while working very hard. He explained that because he’s so focused on work, his child gets upset with him, ultimately leading to him being locked out of the house.
The actor explained that his character is being kept out by Kevin’s son, who is also actively trying to hurt him. He described the house as representing their strained relationship, with Kevin needing to reconnect with his son emotionally. “That’s the best way I can quickly explain it,” he said, adding that he doesn’t entirely dislike the concept and thinks it has potential.
Home Alone Is a Holiday Staple
and are classic Christmas movies. Both were created by the same team: written by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. Alongside Macaulay Culkin, the films starred Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as the bumbling burglars known as the Wet Bandits.
Following Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, most of the original cast and director Chris Columbus moved on. John Hughes returned to write the script for Home Alone 3 in 1997, but the film featured a new lead character: Alex Pruitt, played by Alex D. Linz.
Home Alone 3 didn’t perform well in theaters, earning only $79 million globally—much less than the $358 million made by Home Alone 2. Because of this, it was the last Home Alone movie released to cinemas.
The two sequels, Home Alone 4 (2002) and Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012), were made for television. The fourth film brought back familiar characters, but with a different cast, and the fifth focused on a completely new family. Unfortunately, neither movie was very successful.
A new version of Home Alone, called Home Sweet Home Alone, came out in 2021. It featured Devin Ratray returning as Buzz McCallister, Kevin’s older brother, and continued the story in the same timeline as the first two movies. However, the film received mostly negative reviews after being released on Disney+.

It’s called Mickey’s Home Alone, and it’s basically a reimagining of the original. Think Mickey Mouse and all his pals stepping into those iconic shoes.
