Netflix’s returning crime thriller kicks off with a stellar Rotten Tomatoes score.
Netflix has had a great year so far for crime thrillers. The year kicked off with The Rip, which brought Ben Affleck and Matt Damon together for a story about a drug operation gone wrong. On the TV side, Nemesis has been a hit, drawing comparisons to the classic film Heat and attracting a growing audience.
The second season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder recently launched on Netflix. Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes give it an 83% rating based on 6 reviews. This score may change as more people share their opinions, as the season just premiered on May 27th. Currently, it’s performing similarly to the first season, which also has an 83% rating after 41 reviews.
Season 2 of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, based on Holly Jackson’s 2019 novel, brings back Emma Myers (known from Wednesday) as Pippa “Pip” Fitz-Amobi. Pip is trying to move on after solving her last cases and has promised herself to avoid new investigations. However, with the upcoming trial of Max Hastings and a new person going missing, she finds it difficult to keep that promise.
I’m really excited to hear the show is coming back with most of the original cast – Henry Ashton, Jude Morgan-Collie, Eden H Davies, Zain Iqbal, Asha Banks, Yali Topol Margalith, and Freddie England are all returning! It’s based on the author’s work, and both the author and Poppy Cogan have adapted it for TV, also taking on executive producer roles. It’s six episodes long, which feels like a good length to really dive into the story.
ScreenRant’s review of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 2 is somewhat critical, with the reviewer, Liz Hersey, feeling the show doesn’t fully utilize the potential of its lead actor. However, the review also points out that the six episodes are an improvement over the original book, and the season’s villain is compelling to watch.
In a review for Collider, Jasneet Singh generally liked the season, noting that the show really hit its stride and told the story with growing confidence. He also highlighted the performance of Myers, who effectively carried the crime thriller throughout its entirety, leading up to the season two finale of A Good Girl’s Guide.
Over the next few weeks and months, Netflix will be watching to see how viewers respond to their new original series. Currently, there aren’t any audience ratings available. However, how many people watch will be the key factor in deciding if a third season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will be made.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is available to stream on Netflix.
