Moana Live-Action Trailer Breaks Disney Records With 182 Million Views

Disney’s trailer for the live-action remake of Moana has already broken major records. The trailer, which adapts the popular 2016 animated film, was released just three days ago on November 17th.

The trailer for Disney’s live-action Moana was a huge hit, racking up 182 million views on its first day, according to Deadline. This makes it the second most-viewed live-action trailer Disney has ever released (excluding those from 20th Century Studios), falling just behind the 225 million views the Lion King teaser received in 2019.

When comparing this year’s trailer views from their first 24 hours, Moana ranks third. It’s behind Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, which had 202 million views, and The Devil Wears Prada 2, which received 185 million views.

People online were thrilled to see Moana and Maui return to the big screen, and many commented on how beautiful the movie looked, especially the scenes with the ocean and the vibrant island landscapes.

Directed by Tony Award-winner Thomas Kail (known for Hamilton), Moana tells the story of a young woman who answers the ocean’s call and leaves her home island for the first time. Accompanied by the demigod Maui, she embarks on a quest to save her people and bring back prosperity.

The live-action remake of Moana stars Catherine Laga’aia, making her film debut, and Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui. Joining them are John Tui as Moana’s father Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as her mother Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.

Disney is likely to have a big success at the box office next summer with the release of the live-action Moana movie. The original animated Moana from 2016 earned $643 million worldwide, and Moana 2, released last year, made over $1 billion.

The live-action Moana releases in theaters on July 10, 2026.
