Once you go inside Chrono Tower, the main story of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond really begins. Be warned: from this point on, you can expect major spoilers!
Be warned: in Metroid Prime 4, when the game tells you there’s no turning back, it’s telling the truth! Before you attempt the final push to the tower, double-check that you’ve completed everything you want to do.
Phase 1 – Elemental Sylux
As you enter the last room of the Chrono Tower, a cutscene will begin, and Sylux will appear to fight you. But be warned: this isn’t the Sylux you’re used to – it’s a much more powerful and unsettling version with tentacles, so prepare for a tough battle!
The beginning of the fight with Sylux is pretty straightforward. He doesn’t use many attacks yet – he saves those for later.
- Sylux will group his tentacles together and slam them straight down on top of Samus. Dodge this right as he’s about to hit. Sometimes he only uses one tentacle, but the cadence is the same.
- Sylux will whip a tentacle (or a group) around, signaling that you need to jump over the stalk like a jump rope. Double jumping will give you enough height to clear it easily. Just make sure you do it right before it hits you, not before, as this attack is slow.
To hurt him, you need to destroy the ends of his tentacles until they burst, then pull them off using the grappling hook. Missiles work best because they automatically track Sylux’s tentacles, making it easier to damage them while you’re dodging his attacks. Focus on taking out one tentacle at a time, and stay away from his main body when you pull them off to avoid getting hit.
After you destroy each of Sylux’s tentacles, he becomes open to attack. Now’s the time to use your strongest weapons and deal as much damage as possible to lower his health. Once he heals up, he’ll move onto the next part of the battle.

Once Sylux heals, he’ll switch to using tentacle arms with different elements instead of his usual green ones. This makes his attacks much stronger, and the key to defeating him is to damage him enough to cause an overload, which will revert him back to his original green form. Pay attention to the following details:
- Sylux’s heads will shoot a concentrated beam of fire at the ground in a straight line. Staying far away will help you avoid the initial beam, and walking to the side will help you dodge the aftermath.
- Make sure you’re always looking at the middle head in your peripheral vision. Sylux will thrust forward with it very quickly, and even grab you. If this happens, mash the A button until you’re free.
- Sylux will spit pools of fire into the air, which will linger on the ground. Make a mental note of where the pools are, and stick to an area with a lower concentration of fire.
During this fight, your NPC allies will probably fall in battle at least once, so remember where they are and heal them before they get knocked out. It’s best to use powerful weapons to end his dangerous phase quickly.
Once he returns to his original state, repeat the same steps again. This will cause him to gain a lightning buff, much like he did during the first fire phase.
- When he transforms, stay away (a theme of this fight), as he’ll shock the party. Get ready to revive some teammates
- Sylux will lob balls of lightning into the air: dodge left and right to avoid them while moving backward.
When he reverts to his original green form, he’ll gain a new attack: he’ll brace himself and use his tentacles to swipe at you. While you can dodge this attack in several ways, we found that using the Morph Ball dash was the easiest way to avoid it.
Keep attacking while he’s weakened after you remove the tentacles, and he’ll be defeated. Now we move on to phase 2, signaled by a short video sequence.
If you’re curious, here’s the complete scan entry for Sylux:
This bounty hunter wears a powerful battlesuit originally made for the Galactic Federation, but heavily modified with cutting-edge nanotechnology.
Phase 2 – The Tunnel

Phase 2 feels like a separate, quick challenge. You’ll be on your own now, as Sylux sends Samus through a dimensional rift. Focus on hitting him and keep shooting continuously – dealing damage is the only way to advance. Here’s what to expect from his attacks in this area:
- Sylux will create eyeball beams out of thin air, which are easy to dodge. Just head in the opposite direction of them as far as you can go, and don’t be afraid to overshoot, as they have a massive amount of range.
- When he charges up, a beam shot is coming your way: dodge quickly (as soon as you see the animation) or you’ll get blasted.
- Sylux will create two lines that rapidly spin and seem impossible to dodge. Go into psychic mode and fire a homing shot, weaving between the beams. Hit Sylux, and you’ll be safe.
After you deal enough damage, a cutscene will trigger, and you’ll enter the final circular arena.
Phase 3 – The Final Showdown

Because he’s almost always defenseless, you should constantly attack. During this battle, Sylux relies on a limited set of repeated attacks.
- He’ll stand still, then slam into the ground with a tiny hop, creating a large circular blast wave: double jump over this. Timing-wise, it’s best if you jump late, as the blast is slow.
- Sylux will turn into a form of a morph ball, titled “Lockjaw.” He’ll charge up then slam into you, potentially knocking out an Energy Tank (!). To dodge this, transform into your own morph ball and dash away. Note that he is invincible while the ball form is glowing, so focus on dodging. Once he’s done moving around, blast him with a missile.
- Sylux will hold his arm cannon and charge up like Mega Man: he’s going to do a gigantic horizontal blast not unlike a Capcom Vs fighting game. To dodge this, double jump over it, but be warned, he fires off multiple blasts, one after another.

Watch out for his most dangerous attack: a miniature black hole, signaled by a large, glowing green eye appearing above his head. As soon as you see the eye, quickly activate psychic visor mode and launch a homing blast. Dodge his incoming attacks and aim your blast directly at him. Once you deplete his health, you’ll win the game!
Congratulations! You’ve completed Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Enjoy the ending – you deserve it! There are no more battles against Sylux.
