With a budget of $170 to $200 million, the movie needs to be successful before any talk of future installments can begin. Still, the director, Knight, has shared that he has ideas for how the story could continue if Amazon decides to make a sequel.

“Yeah, of course,” Knight replied when asked if he had a dream cast for a potential follow-up.

Knight explained that they’ve accomplished what they set out to do with this film, but he feels a strong connection to the characters and the expansive world they inhabit. He added that there were many ideas he wanted to include that simply didn’t fit within the movie’s scope.

“We made the movie we wanted to make, and I’m very proud of that,” Knight insisted.

He hinted that if the story continues, he already has a clear idea of where it will go and who will be involved, but he didn’t reveal any specific details.

Knight, who has been a fan of fantasy for years, shared his excitement about the chance to direct a He-Man movie. He emphasized the importance of staying true to the original story and characters.

I really enjoyed it, and that might seem obvious,” Knight began. “But I believe anyone adapting a story should truly understand and love the original work – and I definitely do.

Currently, reviews for the reboot aren’t available, but early reactions after its premiere have been very positive. People who’ve seen it so far say it’s highly entertaining, well-directed, and full of exciting action and impressive visuals. Ultimately, though, studios are most interested in what general audiences think, and we’ll find that out when it’s released in theaters.

The new series takes place on both Earth and Prince Adam’s home world, Eternia. According to Knight, the show draws heavily from 1980s aesthetics, even though the story is set in modern times.

Knight wanted the game to reflect its origins, as the universe it’s based on began in 1982 and peaked in popularity during the mid-to-late 1980s. He achieved this through the game’s music, sound design, and overall score.

The 1980s were a major inspiration for the movie’s music, something I really love. The film also includes a tribute to the band Queen, featuring guitarist Brian May from the band on the soundtrack, similar to the Masters of the Universe movie.

Okay, so I’m super hyped for this movie! Nicholas Galitzine is playing He-Man, which is awesome, and the cast is incredible. Camila Mendes is Teela, Alison Brie is Evil-Lyn, and they’ve got James Purefoy as King Randor. Morena Baccarin is playing the Sorceress, and Charlotte Riley is Queen Marlena. Plus, Idris Elba is Man-At-Arms, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson is Fisto. Seriously, a dream cast for a childhood favorite!

Masters of the Universe premieres in theaters on June 5.
