The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading into a new phase, with several upcoming projects signaling a major shift. The movie Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release in December 2026, will pave the way for Avengers: Secret Wars and bring the Multiverse Saga to a close.
2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Marvel. Not only will the movies mark the end of a major story arc and the beginning of a new one, but the TV shows coming out that year also represent a significant shift for the franchise. With both movies and TV series planned, Marvel is clearly entering a new phase.
2026 Is The First Official Post-TV Overhaul For Marvel
Between 2021 and 2023, Marvel Studios was consistently producing TV shows, but this fast pace caused some problems. When production paused due to the 2023 industry strikes, Marvel had a chance to review its projects, including Daredevil: Born Again. It seems executives weren’t happy with the direction of these shows, so they decided to completely revamp their approach to television production.
The trend of short, writer-driven limited series has faded, and television is returning to a more classic model with writers’ rooms, showrunners, and more episodes. Although this shift began in 2023, 2026 will be the first year that all of Marvel’s television releases fully reflect this new approach.
The first wave of Marvel shows, including Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies, all premiered between 2025 and early 2026. Then, starting in 2026, a new direction for Marvel series will begin with Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and Vision Quest.
These series were all created after Marvel decided to shift its approach, letting them demonstrate the impact of those changes. This makes 2026 a significant year for Marvel Studios, with important releases planned for both theaters and Disney+ reflecting this new direction.

This leaves many wondering what’s next for Marvel TV. While three major shows are planned for 2026, including a continuation of the animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+, there are currently no announced MCU shows scheduled for 2027.
This is a significant change from how things used to be, where new TV stories featuring different Marvel characters were constantly being announced. We’ll probably learn more in 2026 about which Marvel stories will be released on Disney+ versus in movie theaters.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is definitely moving into a new phase, particularly with its TV shows. Recent changes made by Marvel Studios suggest this could be a very promising time for fans.
