Marvel Studios Secretly Hid Fantastic Four’s Surprise Character In the Movie’s First Poster – And We Somehow All Missed Them

Among the multitude of renowned actors in Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” one beloved character was subtly unveiled well ahead of time on the movie’s initial poster. Given Marvel’s penchant for secrecy, it might come as a surprise to some just how early a fan-favorite star made an appearance in the promotional materials for this film.

In one of the initial posters for Marvel Studios‘ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Natasha Lyonne was unveiled as Rachel Rozman. After providing the voiceover for Byrdie in What If…?, Lyonne’s casting in The Fantastic Four sparked curiosity about her character in live-action. Although Marvel held back on disclosing this information until the movie premiere, they subtly hinted at her involvement a few months prior.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement as I recall the day Marvel unveiled that stunning poster on February 4, 2025. Not only did they drop it, but also shared the first full trailer for their upcoming masterpiece! The poster in question features a young girl, skillfully portrayed by the director’s daughter, Matt Shakman, gazing at the sky with an action figure of Ben Grimm/The Thing (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) in her hand. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love being a part of this incredible cinematic universe!

To the girl’s right, there appears a slightly out-of-focus woman sporting red hair and a white coat. Despite the blurriness, her appearance resembles Natalie Lyonne’s forthcoming MCU character, Rachel Rozman.

In Ben Grimm’s neighborhood of Brooklyn, Rachel served as a love interest. A schoolteacher by profession, she later appeared at a Jewish synagogue, sharing an emotional moment with Ben as they united during a crucial mission. Interestingly, her name pays tribute to Rosalind “Roz” Kirby, the spouse of the late Jack Kirby – a significant contributor to the creation of the Fantastic Four and many of their stories.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I couldn’t help but notice that they kept me guessing about Lyonne’s role during the promotional phase of the Fantastic Four movie. To my surprise, Rachel Rozman wasn’t featured in any trailers, keeping her character under wraps. It was almost as if she was hiding in plain sight right from the start, with the marketing tour subtly hinting at her presence without revealing too much.

In conjunction with Lyonne, the cast of “The Fantastic Four” includes Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s initial Phase 6 theatrical outing. Set four years after acquiring their powers, the team encounters their most daunting challenge yet when they must confront Galactus and the Silver Surfer during their intergalactic conquest. The movie, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” is currently playing in cinemas worldwide.

Will Natasha Lyonne Return to the MCU Post-Fantastic Four?

In Disney+’s “What If…?”, Natasha Lyonne made history and experienced nearly a year of achievements under Marvel Studios’ supervision, with her role in “The Fantastic Four” being one of them. The question now is how significant an influence both roles will have on the larger narrative moving forward.

In the future, it’s possible that the character of Lyonne’s Byrdie from “What If…?” could transition from animation to live action. Interestingly, this has already been done with Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“. Given the numerous universes expected to be featured in the next two Avengers films, there may be a chance for the animated universe to become reality alongside its live-action counterpart on the big screen.

Following the survival of Earth-828 in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” there’s a strong possibility that Rachel Rozman, portrayed by Lyonne, might reappear in a supporting role in future films. Given her budding romance with Ben Grimm and the four-year interval before the post-credits scene, it seems likely that they could be romantic partners when Marvel’s First Family makes their comeback in the MCU.

Although the specifics remain unclear for now, there’s a possibility that Lyonne may yet have a prosperous future in store, concluding with the Multiverse Saga.
