Marvel Studios’ New Spider-Man Symbiote Story Sets Up Tom Holland’s Venom

Marvel is now starting to tell stories about symbiotes – alien creatures like Venom, who are famous Spider-Man enemies. While this doesn’t immediately affect Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, it could be setting things up for these characters to officially join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future. Despite being a classic foe of Spider-Man in comics and other media, Venom and other symbiotes haven’t played a significant role in the MCU… until now.

Marvel Studios is experimenting with new Spider-Man stories through the animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which focuses on the hero’s beginnings. The second season is expected to feature a symbiote storyline, potentially setting up future events for Tom Holland’s live-action Spider-Man.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Is Bringing Venom To The MCU

I’ve been seeing a lot of cool stuff from kepleravocado about the next season! They’re showing off all the different suits, and I’m especially excited about what looks like Spider-Man’s version of the Venom symbiote – it’s seriously awesome!

As a long-time Venom fan, I absolutely love that this suit really captures the look from the classic comics. It’s so cool to see Venom with that original blue hue and a leaner build – it’s a refreshing change from how he’s been portrayed in movies like the recent Tom Hardy films. It feels like a true throwback to the character’s roots!

The series continues to draw heavily from classic Spider-Man comics. The artwork intentionally mimics the style of those early comics, and characters like Peter Parker are designed to look as they did when they first appeared in 1962.

Tom Holland Has Yet To Meet Venom In The MCU

The recent Spider-Man movies are introducing the symbiotes earlier in Peter Parker’s story, but surprisingly, Spider-Man and Venom haven’t crossed paths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, even though Venom has already been shown traveling through space for other adventures.

The Venom we see in the Sony movies briefly entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This happened at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and was expanded upon in a scene after the credits of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although he went back to his own universe, a small part of his alien symbiote remained in the world with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

While a future showdown between the hero and the symbiotes seems likely, there are no official plans for it yet. However, the upcoming story in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man might offer a good starting point for how this could happen within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

YFNSM’s Venom May Be Laying The Foundation For Live-Action

Although made by Marvel Studios, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man isn’t currently part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the show might pave the way for how symbiotes are introduced into the larger MCU story. By focusing on a classic Spider-Man tale and featuring many different characters, the series feels like it’s starting to connect more closely with the Spider-Man films.

The ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home effectively gave Peter Parker a fresh start, as everyone forgot who he was. This allows him to build new relationships and opens up possibilities for his story to connect with the events happening in the animated Spider-Verse series.

How symbiotes appear in the animated Marvel universe could mirror existing live-action stories, perhaps placing them far away from Spider-Man and New York City. This approach would allow the symbiote to bond with different hosts before eventually connecting with Peter Parker and becoming the well-known character, Venom.

Look, a lot of this is just me reading between the lines, but it feels like something big is brewing with Spider-Man. Both the animated universe and the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe are going to have to find their own way to tell this story, and that’s fine. Honestly, it’s been a long time coming, and I’m really hoping they stick the landing.
