Critics Were Completely Wrong About ‘Uncharted’
Ruben Fleischer’s Uncharted, released in theaters on February 18, 2022, was a box office hit, earning $407 million on a $120 million budget. It’s now considered one of the best video game adaptations ever made, following successful films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a Minecraft Movie, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Critics weren’t impressed with Uncharted, giving it a low 41% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews ranged from calling it simply disappointing to criticizing it as visually dull and lacking in appeal. Many reviewers found the story weak and inconsistent, focusing on even minor flaws throughout the film.
Most critics missed the mark with their reviews of Uncharted. The film wasn’t aiming to be a serious, artistic achievement; it was designed as a simple, enjoyable action-adventure escape. It’s pure entertainment – and that’s perfectly okay. While it wasn’t perfect, it’s definitely better than the low 41% score it received.
Audiences clearly enjoyed the film, giving Uncharted an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One viewer commented, “I loved everything about this movie!” and another agreed.
