Warning: SPOILERS For Landman Season 2, Episode 4 – “Dancing Rainbows”
The character Landman created a major turning point for Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) and his family, especially after the events of season 2, episode 4. The Norris family came together, though unwillingly, for Tommy’s mother’s funeral, which dramatically changed Tommy’s life and where he lived in Midland, Texas.
As a big fan of Landman, I have to admit the whole situation with Tommy’s house in Midland is hilarious. It started with him renting a place with his coworkers, Nate, a lawyer played by Colm Feore, and Dale Bradley. It quickly turned into this ridiculously crowded, all-guys hangout – basically a super-sized man cave where things just kept escalating!
During the first season of Landman, Tommy’s teenage daughter, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), arrived in Midland and decided to stay. Shortly after, Tommy’s ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter), also moved there. Nate and Dale have had to put up with the disruptions Ainsley creates and Angela’s chaotic cooking and behavior.
T.L. Norris Moving In Means Tommy Has To Get A New House In Fort Worth
The fourth episode of Landman season 2, titled “Dancing Rainbows,” ends with a big surprise: Tommy agrees to Angela’s wish for his father, T.L. Norris (played by Sam Elliott), to move in with them. T.L. has accepted, meaning the Norris family will be relocating to Fort Worth to make room for him at the Midland house.
In season 2, episode 3 of Landman, Angela traveled to Fort Worth with Tommy to look for a new house. She’s hoping to find a place near Texas Christian University, where their daughter, Ainsley, will be attending college. While they haven’t made any decisions yet, the fact that T.L. is moving in with them makes finding a home in Fort Worth even more pressing.
Because the Norris family still hasn’t purchased a new home, T.L. is traveling to Midland with Tommy. The story hasn’t revealed how Nate and Dale reacted, or if Tommy even told them, but they’re likely unhappy about the oldest and most grumpy Norris moving in with them.
Nate and Dale drove to Canadian, Texas, to be there for their friend and boss, Tommy, at his mother’s funeral. The car ride was predictably awkward – Angela controlled the music, and Tommy was still upset about his relationship with his mother. Neither Nate nor Dale realized that Tommy was about to bring even more trouble to the already strained Norris household.
Tommy’s Family Becomes Even More Important In Landman Season 2
Landman tells the story of Tommy, who is dealing with challenges both in his work as a landman and as the new President of M-Tex, while also following the rest of the Norris family. Although Cooper Norris, the family’s wayward son, also works in the oil industry, the storylines involving Angela and Ainsley sometimes feel separate from the main plot.
Season 2 of Landman really expands on the relationships within the Norris family and gives us a closer look at Tommy’s background. Now that Tommy’s father is living with them, T.L. has the chance to connect with his grandchildren and possibly uncover more about the family’s history.
I’ve noticed Landman subtly suggesting that T.L., with his years in the oil business, actually has a lot of valuable knowledge. It’s funny, because Tommy doesn’t seem to realize just how much help he’s going to need. Meanwhile, Gallino is being really friendly and working his way into M-Tex, and I get the feeling he might be planning to buy the whole thing, or even try to take over Cami Miller’s company. It’s all very intriguing!
With T.L. Norris joining the cast, viewers can expect many more scenes featuring the core cast – Sam Elliott, Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, and Jacob Lofland – along with returning actors Colm Feore and James Jordan.
