The next KPop Demon Hunters movie faces a big challenge: finding a villain who can make as strong an impact as Jinu and the Saja Boys did. Jinu was a standout character in the first film, and his heartbreaking backstory added emotional depth that helped KPop Demon Hunters stand out and become so popular.
I was really touched by Jinu’s story in KPop Demon Hunters – it made me see demons in a whole new light, realizing they aren’t just monsters. Now, thinking about the sequel, I don’t want to see the same story repeated with a new character. Instead, I’m hoping for a fresh villain who brings a completely different kind of threat to the world. And honestly, I think KPop Demon Hunters 2 already has someone perfect to fill that role!
Gwi-Ma would be a stronger choice for the main villain in KPop Demon Hunters 2 than Jinu. While viewers recognize Gwi-Ma, his motivations and backstory remain largely unknown, creating an intriguing mystery. More importantly, he possesses the potential to provide a genuinely difficult challenge for HUNTR/X – something that Jinu and the Saja Boys didn’t quite achieve. The next season needs a villain with depth, not just charisma, and Gwi-Ma is perfectly suited to fill that role.
Gwi-Ma Needs To Come To The Fore In KPop Demon Hunters 2
In KPop Demon Hunters, Gwi-Ma works behind the scenes, secretly causing trouble and controlling others to do his bidding while staying hidden and mysterious. The first movie did a great job establishing him as a villain, so the sequel needs to reveal him fully – it’s time for the true mastermind to finally come forward.
Gwi-Ma’s skill at manipulating demons was a key part of what made KPop Demon Hunters successful. But we don’t know much about his past, what drives him, or his ties to the demon world, which creates a great opportunity to build out the story and mythology of the series. A direct conflict between him and HUNTR/X in a sequel could make the story more compelling and emotionally resonant.
Giving Gwi-Ma a detailed history is crucial for making KPop Demon Hunters 2 feel like a progression of the story, rather than a repeat of what came before. Although we didn’t learn much about the villain in the first movie, he remains the most compelling character – even with Jinu delivering a strong performance.
The next installment of the story has a lot of potential for developing the character of Gwi-Ma. One possibility is that he could transform into a human, revealing the full extent of his power and explaining why he’s remained unbeatable for millennia, despite countless hunters trying to defeat him.
KPop Demon Hunters 2 Doesn’t Need Another Rival Band After The Saja Boys
The Saja Boys fulfilled their role as antagonists in KPop Demon Hunters, so introducing another similar group in the sequel would feel repetitive and prevent the story from progressing. KPop Demon Hunters 2 has a strong opportunity to feature a more powerful villain like Gwi-Ma, surpassing the threat posed by the Saja Boys.
Saja Boys Songs in KPop Demon Hunters

“Soda Pop”
“Your Idol”
The romance between idols was a successful element in the Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters and inspired some of its best songs. But relying on this same storyline for every movie would be a mistake. While it’s understandable that creators might repeat what worked before, doing so would prevent them from fully exploring the detailed world they already built.
Introducing a new enemy group could pull focus from the important, unanswered questions about Gwi-Ma and stop the story from exploring the complex ideas it needs to stand out in a crowded animation market. The biggest hurdle for KPop Demon Hunters 2 will be staying original. To do that, the film needs to move beyond simply recreating the success of the first movie and concentrate on resolving the central conflict – finally defeating Gwi-Ma.
