Kate Walsh Returns As Addison Montgomery In Grey’s Anatomy Season 22

The medical drama Grey’s Anatomy is welcoming back a familiar face, an actor who previously reappeared in a guest role three years ago. Over its many seasons, the show has seen numerous cast members depart, including well-known stars like Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, T.R. Knight, Patrick Dempsey, Sara Ramirez, Eric Dane, Chyler Leigh, and Jessica Capshaw.

Only Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have been on Grey’s Anatomy consistently since the beginning. Ellen Pompeo still appears occasionally and continues to narrate the show.

Kate Walsh is returning to Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Addison Montgomery! According to Variety, she’ll appear in a guest role on the January 29, 2026, episode titled “Strip That Down.” Details about what Addison will be up to in the episode haven’t been released yet.

Initially appearing as a guest on Grey’s Anatomy, Walsh was later made a main cast member. Her character, Addison, immediately created drama as Derek’s soon-to-be ex-wife, revealed to have had an affair with Mark Sloan. Derek ultimately ended things with Addison and began a relationship with Meredith Grey.

Following the success of her character on Grey’s Anatomy, ABC created a spin-off series called Private Practice. The show focused on Addison Montgomery relocating to California and joining the Oceanside Wellness Group. The cast included Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, and Paul Adelstein. Caterina Scorsone later joined Private Practice as Amelia Shepherd, Derek’s sister, and eventually moved to Grey’s Anatomy when the spin-off concluded.

After eight years, Walsh came back to Grey’s Anatomy for seasons 18 and 19, appearing in several episodes as a recurring guest star.

Following the end of Private Practice in 2013, Kate Walsh continued to work in television and film, appearing in projects like Girls Trip, Fargo, Bad Judge, 13 Reasons Why, The Umbrella Academy, and Emily in Paris. She’s also experienced some happy news in her personal life, becoming engaged in 2022.

I was thrilled to hear that actress is going back to Grey’s Anatomy! It feels full circle, you know? She and the whole cast were amazing back in the day – they even won a SAG Award for their work as an ensemble, which they totally deserved. It’s cool to see someone return to the show that really launched their career.

Currently, Kate Walsh is scheduled to appear as Addison in just one episode. However, since she’s played Addison in several episodes recently, there’s a chance she might return for more episodes later on.
