Following Superman’s triumphant run, it appears that James Gunn has an incredibly busy schedule mapped out for the DC Universe, with a top-secret project in the works for the DCU that seems to be under wraps. In a recent podcast interview, Gunn hinted at another enigmatic DCU show on the horizon.
So, what could this new mystery series be, and who could lead it? Here are the speculations.
List of DC characters who could lead DCU’s secret TV show
During a conversation on the “I Think You’re Overthinking It” podcast, James Gunn mentioned that in addition to what’s already known, there’s another DC Universe television series in production, set to be released next.
The Justice Gang
In a new tale, it wouldn’t be foolish to focus on the vibrant group of heroes initially presented by The Justice Gang, including Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, and Hawkgirl. It could also prove intriguing to incorporate additional DC Universe characters such as Peacemaker and Doctor Phosphorous into this narrative.
Mr Terrific series
There’s no denying that DC enthusiasts everywhere applauded the portrayal of Mr. Terrific in Superman, with Edi Gathegi delivering an outstanding performance. The character’s adherence to his comic book roots left fans in awe. Given the success of established characters and the growing demand for more content, it’s certainly not unreasonable to consider a series centered around Mr. Terrific.
The adventures of Lobo
If Gunn plans to create a Superman-inspired narrative, introducing a series centered around the character Lobo could be an effective choice. Notably, with Jason Momoa already cast for this role, such a show would undoubtedly bring plenty of stardom and appeal. Momoa’s recent performance as the Chief of War demonstrates his ability to draw audiences on streaming platforms, suggesting he could achieve similar success with Lobo.
A Batman villain series
Just like Lobo, one of Batman’s formidable adversaries might receive their own standalone series. Given the abundance of compelling villains in Batman’s rogue gallery, this could be a possibility. Shows like Gotham and Penguin have already demonstrated the potential for such characters, and it could also serve as a connection between the new DC Universe and the upcoming Batman film.
The Justice Society of America
In summary, the television series might delve into the world of the Justice Society of America (JSA), a richly diverse group with an extensive backstory. By doing so, DCU could introduce several prominent DC characters such as Doctor Fate, Hourman, the Spectre, Sandman, Atom, Hawkman, and more to a wider audience.
Moreover, Superman featured a Hall of Justice mural. Could that be a hint in the right direction?
As a passionate enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that very soon, we’ll learn about the next series James Gunn is crafting for the DC Universe. The potential concepts floating around are nothing short of exhilarating and could significantly enrich our beloved DCU.
