Following her impressive debut in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Margot Robbie gained international recognition by starring as Harley Quinn in the initial “Suicide Squad” film, a role that came after “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Later, she reappeared as Harley in both “Birds of Prey” and “The Suicide Squad,” but there’s no confirmation yet about whether she will return in the DC Universe or if a different actress might take over the role. I’m optimistic that Gunn intends to have Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn. Her portrayal of the character was entertaining for me. However, she has become a highly sought-after actress and producer since then, especially after the release of Barbie in 2023 which garnered immense popularity. Given her increased demand and potential scheduling conflicts or high costs associated with hiring her, it might be challenging to get her back for the role. With Harley Quinn being such a popular character, it seems likely that a new actress will take over if Robbie is unable to return, as some recent rumors suggest.

James Gunn Wants To Bring Bloodsport Back

Hopefully, we’ll receive clear information about Margot Robbie and Harley Quinn’s future involvement sooner than later. In the meantime, James Gunn expressed his wish for Idris Elba to reappear as Robert DuBois (Bloodsport), a character he introduced in ‘The Suicide Squad’. Gunn stated:

“I hope Idris Elba will play Robert DuBois again.

Certainly, I’m constantly seeking the perfect spot for Bloodsport, and I’m working on finding it. Time will tell how things unfold.

In The Suicide Squad movie, it was Bloodsport who led the group that secretly infiltrated Corto Maltese. His accomplices included characters such as Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher 2, Peacemaker, and King Shark. As the story progressed, Rick Flag Jr. and Harley Quinn joined forces with this team after surviving their own group’s destruction. Although Bloodsport and Harley developed a working relationship during their brief time together, she did not remember his name easily. At the end of The Suicide Squad, Bloodsport managed to force Amanda Waller to release him and the other remaining Task Force X members. Given this turn of events, it can be assumed that he has returned to his mercenary ways; however, one might hope that he is also making an effort to be a more responsible father to his daughter Tyla.

Contrary to the doubt surrounding Harley Quinn, James Gunn seems to indicate that Idris Elba might reprise Bloodsport in future projects instead of a new actor being cast. However, whether or not this character will reappear in the DCU remains uncertain for now. In the meantime, the next DCU project, Peacemaker, begins its second season on Thursday, August 21.
