It’s Officially the End of an Era for House of the Dragon

is bringing everyone back to Westeros soon. However, it’s also gearing up for its end.

People have been discussing the ideal length for the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, and co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal recently confirmed in an Entertainment Weekly interview that the original plan for its duration remains in place.

House of the Dragon Will End After Four Seasons

After a two-year wait, a new season of the show has arrived, and it’s building towards a final conclusion. The show’s creator recently reiterated his long-term vision for the series.

I can’t say for sure what everyone else is thinking at HBO, but I definitely intend to continue with the show. Thankfully, HBO has already confirmed House of the Dragon will return for a fourth season.

Ryan Condal developed the show alongside George R.R. Martin in 2022, adapting his popular fantasy novel series, Fire & Blood. As a prequel to the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones, it’s the second installment in the franchise. However, this new series proved more controversial than the original, receiving mixed reactions from both fans and the author. Condal has stated he will not be making any further comments on the matter.

It’s disappointing to see how online fan communities have become so negative. They used to be a positive space where people could connect over shared interests, but now they’re often filled with conflict. This is especially harmful to the young actors who achieved something remarkable and faced a difficult challenge.

What Happens in House of the Dragon Season 3?

The show’s creator had hinted that the series would end after covering the Targaryen family’s brutal civil war, often called The Dance of the Dragons.

Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond “One-Eye,” described the upcoming conflict as a full-on, immediate war, saying it will be a rapid and relentless attack from the very beginning.

Condal has hinted that the upcoming Battle of the Gullet will be an incredibly wild and unprecedented television event. However, the conflict isn’t expected to be resolved this season and will likely continue into Season 4.

The series House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the original Game of Thrones, and about 100 years before the new show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Season 3 of House of the Dragon begins June 21st, with new episodes airing every Sunday through the finale on August 9th.
