It: Welcome To Derry creators answer whether Pennywise was in Episode 3
Viewers are buzzing about the third episode of HBO’s ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ after a scene appeared to suggest Pennywise was about to appear. The show’s creators have responded with a vague answer about the figure, making it uncertain if it was actually the terrifying villain.
The HBO series, taking place in 1962, keeps digging into the frightening beginnings of Pennywise. In the third episode, Will Hanlon (Blake Cameron James) is lured to a graveyard, where he hears strange noises and takes a picture of a shadowy figure. When he develops the photo, a clown-like shape appears, and Will quietly says, “It’s a clown,” right before the episode ends.
Fans are speculating about whether Pennywise appeared in the latest episode, but the show’s creators, Brad Caleb Kane and Jason Fuchs, are playing coy. In an interview with Deadline, Kane jokingly asked if the figure at the end of episode 103 was indeed Pennywise, then immediately said he didn’t know. He explained that the show is intentionally designed to leave viewers guessing.
Kane explained that they intentionally surprised viewers right from the first episode. The goal was to create a sense that any character could be in danger and that nothing is straightforward, meaning anything could happen at any time. Fuchs jokingly suggested the show’s unpredictable nature was similar to the horror film It, referencing the character Pennywise.
Kane strongly hinted that Pennywise will appear in the show, telling viewers to expect it. Although the creators are being secretive, their comments have only increased speculation that Pennywise is indeed coming, and some fans think this secrecy is a deliberate attempt to mislead everyone.
