The new Highlander movie has faced many delays, and actor Dave Bautista recently explained some of the reasons why. While he doesn’t know all the details, Bautista said a major factor is the switch to a different film studio. The remake was previously set to star Henry Cavill.
Dave Bautista says change in studios delayed the Highlander remake
Dave Bautista, star of Guardians of the Galaxy, recently told MovieWeb that the purchase of the rights to Highlander by Amazon MGM Studios earlier this year caused delays in getting the movie made.
I shouldn’t say for sure what the problems were, but it’s clear the studio change threw everything off, as far as I know. It created a lot of uncertainty – things like planned filming dates got moved around, and everyone’s contracts were affected. When a new studio takes over, they want to revise the script, and then you end up getting feedback from a lot of different people. I think that played a big role in what happened.
I’m really excited about the new Highlander project! It’s been a long time coming, you know? Back in 2008, Summit Entertainment actually owned the rights and they were even talking about a reboot with Ryan Reynolds, but it just never happened. Now, thankfully, Amazon MGM Studios has stepped in and is finally making it happen, and they’ve cast Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod. It’s a dream come true for fans like me!
Beyond changes in leadership, a setback with the Highlander reboot came when Henry Cavill was injured during filming. However, the actor, known for his role as Superman, is now recovering and working to get back on schedule. Dave Bautista praised Cavill’s dedication, saying he’s pushing himself hard to recover, just like a professional athlete would.
