In fall 2025, the universe of “Blue Bloods” will return to prime time television, featuring Donnie Wahlberg returning as Danny Reagan and a fresh cast of characters, with Danny’s relocation to Boston. Filming in Boston marks a homecoming for Wahlberg, who serves as a guide for his fellow actors. Previews from the series premiere showcase the series making full use of its new setting. And for fans of “Blue Bloods” worried about the absence of many Reagans, rest assured that the tradition of the Reagan family dinner carries on in some way.

The New Reagan Family Dinners And More
Over the span of fourteen series of “Blue Bloods,” many things evolved, but one constant was unwavering: the Reagan family would gather at their table for a shared meal. The final Reagan family dinner was an emotional affair for the cast, but it wasn’t the last such gathering, at least not for Danny and Erin… or so it seemed. Interestingly, snapshots from “Boston Blue” suggest that dinners will now be hosted by the family of Danny’s new partner, Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green). Here are some images:
This summer, it was announced that I’ll be returning to the set of Blue Bloods for Boston Blue, stepping back into my role from the original series alongside Donnie Wahlberg. It seems that my character, Erin, will be extending an invitation to the Silver family dinner, acting as the modern-day equivalent of the Reagan family gathering. The Silver family consists of Gloria Reuben playing Boston district attorney Mae Silver, Maggie Lawson as police superintendent Sarah Silver, rookie cop Jonah Silver (played by Marcus Scribner), and Ernie Hudson as renowned Baptist pastor Reverend Edwin Peters, with Lena Silver also in the ranks. Here’s a sneak peek of Lena, Erin, and Danny enjoying a drink together!

Certainly, Boston Blue isn’t just about amusement and shared meals with family. Danny moves from New York City with the intention of connecting with his son Sean who is embarking on his career in Boston. Regrettably, it appears that Sean finds himself entangled in the initial major crime of the series, as a fiery disaster at a tech company leads Danny and Lena to cross paths. A sneak peek at Mika Amonsen portraying Sean suggests he’ll be present during a particularly disastrous fire incident.

In essence, although the new series titled Boston Blue introduces a fresh lineup of characters for the most part, it will maintain some beloved aspects from Blue Bloods, but with an interesting twist. The transition from the Reagan family gatherings to Silver family meals might require some adaptation, yet the talent within the Silver family is outstanding. My curiosity at this juncture lies in determining whether Danny will regularly attend these dinners or if they’ll predominantly highlight Lena and her companions. However, I can’t help but feel excited about Boston based on the other photos I’ve seen, which only fuel my anticipation for the series.
Why I Was Already Excited For Boston Blue
Admittedly, Boston holds a special place in my heart as my preferred destination to explore. Although I hail from Cleveland and have no allegiance to the Red Sox, Patriots, or Celtics, I find the city’s history captivating. The walkability, train system, and even the weather charm me – yes, even for someone who once endured a December nor’easter! Therefore, whenever I encounter Boston in the TV series “Boston Blue“, my enthusiasm for witnessing the city is reignited.
I wasn’t anticipating identifying landmarks so quickly! Check out Boston Common with the capitol building in the backdrop, it seems Danny and Lena are working there. Let me tell you, this picture is far superior (and has some big-name celebrities) compared to what I have stored on my camera roll from my trips!

While I may not have extensive knowledge about every centuries-old cemetery in Massachusetts, particularly Granary Burying Ground in Boston, it seems quite plausible that Donnie Wahlberg is pursuing a suspect through this 17th century graveyard. Unlike Danny Reagan from the TV show, I haven’t personally experienced any chase sequences at the location during my visits.

In this historical cemetery, it won’t just be Danny running; Donnie Wahlberg will also be joined by Sonequa Martin-Green for the shooting of this specific scene.

On Friday, October 17th at 10 PM Eastern Time, you’ll find me tuning in to the debut of “Boston Blue” on CBS. If you’re a fan of “Blue Bloods,” you might recognize that Donnie Wahlberg’s spinoff is stepping into the original series’ Friday night time slot. This October 17th promises to be an electrifying evening for CBS viewers. Meanwhile, at 8 PM ET, season 4 of “Fire Country” will kick off, and at 9 PM ET, we’ll see the launch of its spinoff, “Sheriff Country.” However, they’ll swap time slots the following week.
