Avengers: Doomsday isn’t just gathering Earth’s heroes – it’s uniting the strongest heroes from across all realities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This new Marvel movie, titled Doomsday, stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo – the team behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It’s planned as the epic conclusion to the Multiverse Saga, bringing together both new and familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men franchise. Expect to see stars like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Alan Cumming.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that as many as 30 to 35 actors would sometimes be on set during filming of Doomsday. He explained that the Russo brothers were skilled at managing such a large cast, including actors who had played their characters for many years alongside those who were newer to the roles, and creating a comfortable environment where they could further develop their performances.
The directors explained how they make their films to give each hero the most meaningful screen time. According to Anthony Russo, “We really care about all the characters.” Even with a large cast and some characters driving the main plot, they approach filmmaking by considering the story from every character’s perspective.
He explained that the brothers explore the full potential of each character, considering how they fit into the story and how they push other characters. They approach the film as if it’s told from each character’s perspective, and he finds it incredibly enjoyable to see the story unfold through all their eyes.
Joe Russo also emphasized the importance of trusting actors as a director. He believes it’s their responsibility to fully embody their characters and genuinely connect with them. Russo and his team actively encourage actors to share any insights or subtle details they might notice that could enhance the performance.
Joe Russo described the filmmaking process as very fluid and constantly evolving. He explained that they’re always rewriting the script, often daily, because new ideas emerge or actors bring unexpected contributions that they immediately incorporate. It’s a dynamic and responsive process where the story changes as it’s being made.
Feige highlighted the excellent teamwork and well-rounded characters, calling it a true strength of the Russo Brothers’ work. The full cast will come together when Avengers: Doomsday premieres in cinemas on December 18, 2026.
