Amazon MGM Studios has added three new actors to the cast of the upcoming live-action God of War series for Prime Video. The series is based on the popular action-fantasy video game franchise that originally debuted on PlayStation in 2005.
The game follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, on a journey to scatter the ashes of their loved one, Faye. Along the way, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus tries to help his father reconnect with his humanity.
Who is joining the God of War TV show?
Alastair Duncan, known for his work on ‘Taggart,’ Jeff Gulka (‘The X-Files’), and Danny Woodburn (‘The Witcher’) are joining the cast of the ‘God of War’ TV series, currently being prepared for filming in Vancouver. Duncan will return as Mimir, a character he previously voiced in the ‘God of War’ video games. Gulka and Woodburn will play Sindri and Brok, respectively.
Listed below are the three new characters’ official descriptions:
- Mimir (Duncan) is a cheery fellow from Celtic lands with an expansive intellect, a quick wit, and a good head on his shoulders. Never at a loss for words, Mimir is the self-described “Smartest Man in the World”. He served as an advisor to Odin the All-Father, who ultimately banished Mimir to confinement in the trunk of a tree, forever cut off from the people he loves and anything that could nourish his mind. In the wake of his banishment, Mimir seeks atonement for the terrible deeds he committed in the All-Father’s name.
- Sindri (Gulka) is a renowned dwarven blacksmith whose incredible weaponry is sought after across the realms. Neurotic, helpful, and extremely germaphobic, Sindri is the complete opposite of his cranky, foul-mouthed brother and business partner, Brok.
- Brok (Woodburn) is a legendary dwarven blacksmith who was alienated from his community when he helped build a super-weapon. He is brash, irreverent, and gruff – the complete opposite of his uptight brother and fellow blacksmith, Sindri, with whom he has a contentious relationship. Gamers will know Brok as the beloved weapons dealer with an unrivaled artistry for creative, foul-mouthed curses.
Ronald D. Moore, known for his work as a showrunner, will be writing and executive producing a new series based on Norse mythology. Joining the already announced cast – Ryan Hurst (as Kratos), Max Parker (as Heimdall), Mandy Patinkin (as Odin), and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (as Thor) – will be a new group of actors. Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye will helm the first two episodes.
Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon are the executive producers. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis also contributed. The series is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Good news for fans – a second season has already been confirmed before the first one even airs!
