God of War Franchise Gets Huge Remake Update

I was so excited by the latest State of Play! Sony and Santa Monica Studio revealed some huge news for the God of War series. They surprised us with a release I wasn’t expecting, and they’re even bringing back something fans have been asking for for ages. It feels like they’re really taking the franchise in some exciting new directions, both looking back at its roots and forward to what’s next.

Remake of the original God of War Greek trilogy is in development

A remake of the original God of War games – the three titles based on Greek mythology – is officially happening. Santa Monica Studio shared the news, celebrating with TC Carson, the original voice actor for Kratos.

Carson announced the news during PlayStation’s State of Play event on February 12, 2026.

This remake commemorates the 20th anniversary of the God of War series, which first launched on PlayStation 2 in March 2005. Santa Monica Studio shared that the project is in its early stages and asked fans for patience, stating more details will be revealed later. Sony hasn’t announced when the game will be released.

PlayStation 5 unexpectedly released a new game called God of War: Sons of Sparta. Developed by Mega Cat Studios and written with help from the team behind the original God of War, this 2D action game explores Kratos’s early life and training with his brother, Deimos. The game tells a new, official story focusing on themes of loyalty, courage, and family.

TC Carson is back as the voice of Kratos, and he’ll also narrate the game. According to Santa Monica Studio, Kratos will master new, lethal combat techniques with a spear and shield, and he’ll gain access to powerful items called the Gifts of Olympus. The game boasts beautiful hand-drawn pixel art and features a mix of familiar creatures and brand new ones drawn from lesser-known Greek myths.

God of War: Sons of Sparta is now available to play on PlayStation 5. The standard version costs $29.99, €29.99, £24.99, or ¥3480, while the Digital Deluxe Edition is priced at $39.99, €39.99, £32.99, or ¥4480.
