Fox’s Canceled Sci-Fi Series Terra Nova Now Streaming on Tubi

Tubi has added a bunch of new movies and TV shows this month, and the best part is everything is free to watch – no subscription needed! One of the new TV series is a show that Fox unfortunately canceled before its time.

Starting May 1st, you can watch Terra Nova for free on Tubi. The show originally aired on Fox 15 years ago, but it only lasted one season with a total of 13 episodes. While Terra Nova was visually impressive, with realistic dinosaurs and futuristic scenery, it was expensive to produce – costing over $4 million per episode. Ultimately, Fox decided the show’s viewership didn’t justify a second season despite its high production value.

Steven Spielberg Executive Produced Terra Nova

Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein developed the series, with Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. The story takes place in 2149, when Earth faces a crisis due to overpopulation and environmental damage. To save humankind, scientists find a way to travel back in time – 85 million years, to be exact. They send people to establish a new colony called Terra Nova, hoping to rebuild society in a prehistoric world full of dangerous dinosaurs.

The show revolved around the Shannon family – Jim and Elisabeth, along with their teenage children Josh and Maddy, and young daughter Zoe. Key characters also included Mira, the leader of a resistance movement; Josh’s friend Skye; security guard Guzman; chief scientist Dr. Wallace; and Commander Taylor, who governed the Terra Nova colony.

Different Dinos Were Showcased in Terra Nova

Although Steven Spielberg was involved in the show, the dinosaurs featured weren’t the same ones from Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs in Terra Nova lived during the Cretaceous period, so you won’t see a T. rex. Spielberg made this deliberate choice because he wanted the show to feel distinct from the Jurassic Park films, knowing viewers would associate his name with it. This helped Terra Nova establish its own unique identity, even though it wasn’t as widely successful.

Tubi has added a bunch of new shows this month, including the sci-fi series Terra Nova. They’ve also made All, a dystopian future drama about an alien invasion, available to stream. Fans of action can now watch 24: Legacy, and other additions include classic shows like Angel, The Incredible Hulk, and Static Shock.
