Emilia Clarke’s 8-Part Spy Thriller Series Gets Encouraging Season 2 Update

The spy thriller Ponies launched earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim. While it’s still uncertain if the show will be renewed for a second season, Emilia Clarke, the series’ star and executive producer, says things are looking good.

I was so excited to hear Clarke, who I love from shows like Game of Thrones and Terminator: Genisys, talk about what’s next for Ponies. It’s clear they always intended to continue the story, especially with that huge cliffhanger at the end of Season 1! Because she’s involved with the show creatively, she let slip that they’ve been discussing Season 2 and are really hoping to get it approved soon. Fingers crossed we get more Ponies!

Season 2 Talks Are Happening Behind the Scenes

Clarke describes the show’s writing as exceptionally good. She explains that she usually reads scripts and thinks, ‘I’m excited to see the finished product, but I don’t want to have to act in it.’ This script, however, was different – she was eager to be a part of it.

She confirmed there have been a lot of talks about Season 2, and as a producer, she’s able to participate in those discussions.

The show’s positive reception is a good sign for its future. Ponies has a remarkable 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the most critically acclaimed new series this year. It also quickly gained popularity on Peacock. The team behind Ponies is ready to create more episodes, suggesting a renewal is likely, but the streaming platform hasn’t officially confirmed it yet.

Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson Lead the Cast

The series Ponies takes place in Moscow in 1977. It centers on Bea Grant and Twila Hasbeck, two wives of American embassy officials who are secretly CIA agents. After their husbands are reported missing, Bea and Twila start their own investigation to uncover the truth. Their search leads them into a complex conspiracy. The show’s title, which stands for “Persons Of No Interest,” highlights how Bea and Twila’s unassuming nature makes them effective spies, as they’re easily overlooked by intelligence agencies.

Susanna Fogel and David Iverson developed the series. The cast includes Will Sharpe, alongside Adrian Lester (known for The Sandman), Artjom Gilz (Milk & Honey), Vic Michaelis (Very Important People), Nicholas Podany (Hello Tomorrow!), Petro Ninovskyi (My Young Prince), Harriet Walter (Ted Lasso), John Macmillan (House of the Dragon), Paul Chahidi (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul). Will Sharpe, David Iverson, and Susanna Fogel serve as executive producers, along with Mike Daniels, Alison Mo Massey, and Jessica Rhoades.
