Milo Manheim, the actor playing Flynn Rider in the upcoming live-action version of Tangled, recently told fans he was excited to take on the role. The news came in January that Manheim would star with Teagan Croft in the remake of the beloved 2010 Disney animated musical. This Tangled remake is part of Disney’s strategy to create live-action versions of its classic animated films, a trend that proved successful in 2025 with the live-action Lilo & Stitch.
While the live-action version of Tangled is still in the early stages of development and doesn’t have a release date yet, excitement is building now that Rapunzel and Flynn have been cast. During interviews about Season 3 of School Spirits, actor Manheim shared that he’s just starting work on Tangled, but feels a strong connection to the character of Flynn Rider.
Manheim described the role as a dream come true, explaining he’d always wanted to play a fugitive in such a visually stunning setting. He promised to stay true to the original character as much as possible, while bringing his own interpretation to it.

I’m just starting to explore how my character will develop in the sequel, and I’ve been discussing it with the director, Michael Gracey. I absolutely love the first movie and I’m really invested in doing this character justice.
I’ve realized I relate to Flynn Rider from Tangled a lot. I’ve always dreamed of being an adventurous hero – someone who saves the day, not a thief. There’s something really appealing about that image – being a bit of a rogue, running around in a beautiful and exciting world.
I’m eager to get started, and I’ll learn as I go. I promise to do my best to fulfill my commitment.
Dennis Manheim will be voicing Flynn Rider in a new Disney film, taking over the role previously played by Zachary Levi in the 2010 movie alongside Mandy Moore as Rapunzel. Michael Gracey, known for directing films like The Greatest Showman and Better Man, is directing. Scarlett Johansson was also considered for a role in the movie.
Milo Manheim Plans To Do Flynn Rider Justice

Flynn Rider, the charming prince from Disney’s Tangled, has been a fan favorite for 16 years. The movie shows his incredible change from a witty thief to Prince Eugene Fitzherbert, and his eventual marriage to Rapunzel. Now, Disney is bringing his story to life again with a live-action adaptation of Tangled.
Finding the right actors for a live-action version of Tangled took a while, and Milo Manheim competed with several others for the lead role, including Charlie Gillespie from Julie and the Phantoms. After Manheim was cast, original star Zachary Levi publicly supported him, commenting on his Instagram post with a message encouraging him to do a great job as Eugene Fitzherbert.
Manheim intends to bring the character to life on screen, and appears dedicated to portraying them accurately and respectfully.
I’m so excited to hear they’re making a live-action version of Tangled! It’s coming after their Moana remake in 2026, and it’s great to see another beloved Disney movie from the 2010s getting this treatment. Disney’s been trying this live-action thing for a while now, and it’s been a bit of a mixed bag – some, like Lilo & Stitch and The Lion King, have been huge successes, but others, like Snow White, haven’t quite hit the mark.
