Desperate Housewives’ Dana Delany Finally Speaks Out on Upcoming Spin-Off Series, Potential Return (Exclusive)

Dana Delany, known for her role in Desperate Housewives, has expressed interest in appearing in the upcoming Hulu spin-off, Wisteria Lane. Her character, Katherine Mayfair – introduced in Season 4 – is a fan favorite. Throughout the series, Katherine experienced dramatic moments, including a complicated feud with Bree Van de Kamp, a shocking act of self-defense, and a groundbreaking same-sex relationship with Robin Gallagher.

Although Desperate Housewives concluded in May 2012, rumors of a return began circulating last summer. In April 2025, Deadline reported that a new series, Wisteria Lane, is in development. This isn’t a direct continuation, but rather a fresh take on the original concept, with Kerry Washington producing and Natalie Chaidez (known for The Flight Attendant) writing. So far, none of the original cast members have been confirmed to return, but one familiar face from the franchise has recently spoken about the new project.

Dana Delany recently told TopMob, while discussing her show Tulsa King, that she’d be open to reprising her role as Katherine Mayfair if Hulu were to revive Wisteria Lane.

Delany said she’d enjoy reprising her role as Katherine Mayfair if a Desperate Housewives spin-off were to happen, calling it “fun” to return.

TopMob: “Would you be willing to return?”

Dana Delany: “Um, sure. If I could come back as Katherine, that would be fun.”

She playfully mentioned wanting to be on the tour bus for the show, saying she’d just wave to fans, after confirming whether the spin-off would focus on new characters.

TopMob asked Dana about the upcoming Desperate Housewives spin-off on Hulu. He acknowledged her important role in the original series and quickly asked what she thought about the new show and if she’d be interested in being involved in any way.

Dana Delany wondered if a potential continuation of the show would feature younger actresses playing her character, or entirely new, younger characters.

You know, I heard Dana Delany say she’s totally planning on becoming part of the Universal Studios tour! She joked that she’ll be riding the bus through Wisteria Lane and just waving at all the fans – how fun is that?

Dana Delany’s character, Mayfair, added depth to Desperate Housewives with her compelling story of overcoming abuse and navigating love. Bringing her back for the spin-off could be a great move.

As a huge fan of Desperate Housewives, I was so excited to hear Dana Delany talk about potentially returning as Katherine Mayfair! Though the network says there aren’t any plans right now to bring back original characters, Dana’s enthusiasm is fantastic, and I really hope it encourages ABC and Hulu to think about bringing more of our favorites back for future appearances. It would be amazing to see those familiar faces again!

How Katherine Mayfair Could Fit in Hulu’s Desperate Housewives Spin-Off

Having Dana Delany reprise her role as Katherine Mayfair would be a great addition to the Desperate Housewives spin-off. It’s also not unusual for characters from the original series to reappear in revivals or spin-offs.

Several shows have featured returning actors to connect with fans. For instance, Neil Patrick Harris and Colbie Smulders made appearances in the How I Met Your Father spin-off, and Young Sheldon brought back Jim Parsons as the adult Sheldon in its final episode. As a big fan, I’m really hoping Katherine comes back in the Hulu spin-off!
