HBO has renewed The Pitt for a third season, just one day before its release. The news was announced on January 7th at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles. The upcoming season will feature 15 new episodes, a move that goes against the typical streaming model.

R. Scott Gemmill developed the drama series The Pitt, which centers around the lives of doctors and nurses working in a busy Pittsburgh emergency room. Noah Wyle stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, a seasoned attending physician. The ensemble cast includes Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, and Shabana Azeez. Sepideh Moafi joined the show in its second season as Dr. Al-Hashimi.

Season 1 was a huge success, popular with viewers and praised by critics. The Pitt received five Emmy Awards from its thirteen nominations, including awards for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

The first season’s major change happened around Labor Day. For season two, things will get more intense with the change happening on July 4th.

The first season was also a hit with critics, earning a 95% approval rating based on 80 reviews, and it was well-received by audiences with an 87% rating.

While audience scores aren’t available yet – the episode premieres at 9 PM Eastern Time – critics are already praising the show’s consistent quality, calling it a top-tier television series.
