DC Studios Confirms Justice League’s Current Status In The DCU

The current standing of the Justice League in the DC Universe, as per a recent update from DC Studios, is now in sync. Speculations regarding the future trajectory of the Justice League within the DCU have been circulating online, given the franchise’s upcoming debut with its first films and series. Given the potential delay until their release, numerous fans are already formulating theories about where they might find themselves within the narrative.

James Gunn, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios, discussed the current standing of the Justice League within the new DC Universe as of 2025. So far, only the original Justice League member, Superman, has made an appearance in the DCU, starring in his own movie produced by Gunn and David Corenswet. Although the Justice League teamed up for the first time on screen under Zack Snyder, it remains unclear when they will collaborate again with Gunn at the helm.

In Threads, a fan questioned Gunn about the initial scenes of Peacemaker Season 2, where there was a summary of Season 1. This summary introduced a revised moment that swapped the DCEU’s Justice League with the Justice Gang, who debuted in Superman. When asked about this change, Gunn explained that “there is no Justice League (as of yet) in the DC Universe.

“That was due to the fact there is no Justice League (yet) in the DCU.”

In simpler terms, Gunn hasn’t specified when the Justice League will officially come together in the main DC Universe storyline, but he has acknowledged that they don’t exist yet. This information follows the introduction of a group called the Justice Gang, consisting of Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific, which was featured in Season 2 of Peacemaker alongside David Corenswet’s Superman and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl.

At present, Gunn is initiating the rollout of his new DC Universe with projects, beginning from December 2024 with ‘Creature Commandos’. The most recent additions to this series include ‘Superman’, released in July 2025, and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, slated for August 2025.

When Will the Justice League Form in James Gunn’s DCU?

Currently, David Corenswet is the sole actor cast among the iconic Justice League members. If plans remain unaltered for any character roles, it means that James Gunn faces an ambitious task of finding actors for Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and potentially Green Lantern (Hal Jordan).

It seems that according to Gunn’s latest update, fans might have to be patient before they get to see Aquaman and The Flash, previously portrayed by Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller, in the DC Universe. Gunn hinted that it could potentially take a few more years for these popular characters to make their appearance.

It appears that according to recent reports, Gunn and DC Studios might be accelerating plans for a new Wonder Woman film, implying that the iconic Amazonian character could soon regain prominence, following Gal Gadot’s portrayal within the DCEU.

Given all factors, it seems that the team might not come together until the latter part of the 2020s, as Gunn wants to ensure a well-crafted narrative by taking ample time for its development.
