In James Gunn’s new DC Universe, Superman marked the beginning. While there’s much anticipation about who will portray Batman in this continuity, it seems we’ll encounter one of Superman’s famous adversaries first. Specifically, the horror-inclined Clayface is set to debut on the big screen, potentially paving the way for other prominent villains (perhaps even multiple variants) to appear. The cryptic graffiti spotted on the movie set may provide clues about who these other foes might be.
An unofficial photograph, believed to be from the filming of the purportedly terrifying movie titled Clayface, has been making rounds online (through @CultureCrave). Although no characters are discernible in the image, the graffiti on the wall piques curiosity. The phrase “The Jokers,” scrawled in bold spray paint, could suggest various interpretations. In the realm of upcoming DC movies, these speculations seem equally plausible:
1. A possible collaboration or crossover involving characters associated with The Joker, such as Harley Quinn, the Joker’s Daughter, or even multiple Jokers from different universes.
2. The title of a new villain group that could be opposing the protagonists in Clayface, adding an intriguing layer to the storyline.
3. A misleading hint meant to create buzz around the movie and keep fans guessing until its official release.
Does This Mean There Are Multiple Jokers In The DCU?
As a movie enthusiast, it’s hard not to ponder if “The Jokers” implies multiple iterations of the iconic DC villain gracing our screens. The idea isn’t far-fetched when considering the Three Jokers storyline from DC Comics, where Batman tracks down three distinct individuals embodying the Clown Prince of Crime.
For years, fans have clamored for this intriguing narrative to be brought to life on the big screen, even going as far as creating fan-made trailers that showcase their visions. If such a project were to materialize, I’d be thrilled to see any of the previous Joker actors reprising their roles or perhaps an unexpected choice like Timothée Chalamet stepping into the infamous clown shoes. After all, a movie-goer can always dream!
Is This A Reference To Joker‘s Gang?
I’m really eager to see the live-action adaptation of “Batman Beyond,” so I’m hoping “The Jokers” could be a modern take on the gang called the “Jokerz” who were active during Terry McGinnis’ tenure as the Caped Crusader. It’s intriguing to speculate that perhaps Clayface has already been given the greenlight because of an amazing script idea from storytelling genius Mike Flanagan, and what if that idea was to create a covert Batman movie set in a not-so-distant future?
As a cinephile with a penchant for chilling tales, I must admit, it came as a surprise to find Mike Flanagan veering away from his signature horror genre and diving into sci-fi territory with the new movie featuring an older Bruce Wayne and a suited-up Terry. One might argue that this is a slight departure from his usual style, but given we’re not too far from the timeline of the original animated series, I can’t help but entertain the possibility of a faithful adaptation in the future.
Is This Just Meaningless Graffiti?
If I had a penny for every instance where I interpreted graffiti from DC movies only to find it had no real significance, I would have at least one penny accumulated. For example, the graffiti on Robin’s costume in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice turned out not to be linked to any major plot points.

Clayface Was My Most Anticipated DCU Movie, But The Latest Update May Have Changed That Completely
If the backstory of the Joker plays a significant role in the “Clayface” film, it seems reasonable to assume that the production team would take care to conceal any graffiti related to him to avoid accidental leaks. On the other hand, it could also be intentional, serving as a hint for future plot developments such as multiple iterations of The Joker or a group of his followers being introduced.
From where I stand, it seems we think we’ve got a handle on The Joker’s storyline within the DCU, but let’s face it, we’re mostly guessing at this point. Here’s hoping that as time goes by, we uncover more pieces of the puzzle concerning The Joker and his actions in the DCU. Still, it’s a long road ahead until this movie hits the big screen, so patience is key.
The film featuring Clayface is set to debut in September 2026, and I can hardly wait for its arrival – especially since there might be some intriguing interplay with The Joker! I’m beyond excited to see how this movie unfolds, and I hope it maintains the eerie atmosphere that characterizes Mike Flanagan’s other projects.
