As a Marvel fan, I have to say the return of those gritty, street-level heroes to the MCU has been a real highlight of everything Marvel’s been building toward with the Multiverse Saga. Seeing Daredevil get another chance with ‘Born Again,’ and knowing it’s likely to bring characters like Jessica Jones back into the mix, makes me feel like a major storyline is finally going to get the payoff it deserves. It’s genuinely exciting!
Krysten Ritter is reprising her role as Jessica Jones, bringing the character back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) this month in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. It’s been seven years since we last saw Jessica Jones, at the end of her Netflix series in 2019. The showrunner of Daredevil: Born Again has hinted that the MCU might finally be ready to tell the Jessica Jones story fans have been hoping for.
7 Years Later, Jessica Jones Is Returning To The MCU In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Jessica Jones coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in season two of Daredevil: Born Again is a huge moment for the characters who originally appeared on Netflix’s Marvel shows.
It’s been seven years since the end of Jessica Jones season 3, and many questions about the characters’ futures remained unanswered, except for Daredevil. Unlike Jessica Jones and other Netflix heroes, Daredevil (Matt Murdock) and Kingpin have appeared in several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home, Hawkeye, She-Hulk, and Echo. These appearances came before the recent release of Daredevil: Born Again season 1.
It seems the team is starting to reunite, beginning with Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. The new season, launching later this month, will feature Wilson Fisk, known as Mayor Kingpin, as he attempts to control New York City and cracks down on vigilantes with a powerful new task force.
With the city’s leaders now becoming Daredevil’s enemies, Jessica Jones couldn’t be coming back at a more opportune moment. Both she and Matt Murdock have a shared past, going back to when they teamed up in the Netflix series The Defenders.
I’m really excited because the showrunner, Dario Scardapane, hinted that we’re going to learn a lot more about what Jessica has been up to in the seven years since we last saw her. It sounds like they might even be bringing some big storylines from the comics into the new season of Daredevil: Born Again!
With Any Luck, The MCU’s Jessica Jones Will Be Married To Luke Cage
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Scardapane shared that Jessica Jones will be a more developed and mature character when she appears in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, having aged seven years since her last appearance.
We’ve recognized that several years have passed since the original Netflix series ended, and our show picks up after that. The characters have naturally grown and changed with time, and we’re exploring what that means for them – especially Jessica Jones, and how her experiences have shaped her over the last seven years.
Scarpadane hinted that upcoming storylines for Jessica Jones might be directly based on the comic books.
Melissa Rosenberg’s first season of Jessica Jones is truly exceptional – some of the best superhero TV ever made. When I joined Marvel, bringing Jessica Jones back was my top priority. I believe her story isn’t finished, and the comic books reveal a compelling next phase of her life that I’m eager to explore.
Considering everything, I think the next step for Jessica Jones will be a deeper relationship with Luke Cage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This would mirror their marriage and family life from the comic books.
Given the seven-year time jump the MCU seems to be using, it would be logical for Jessica Jones to be married to Luke Cage upon her return, or at least preparing to be.
Showing that growth and evolution would not only support what Scardapane is talking about, but it would also give fans what they’ve wanted for a long time – even before the Netflix Jessica Jones shows ended and Disney+ launched.
If Jessica Jones were to marry or become engaged to Luke Cage, it would bring attention back to unresolved parts of his story, such as the status of Harlem’s Paradise at the end of Luke Cage season 2. Still, it would be a great way to finally tie up loose ends from the old Netflix Marvel shows in a way that fans would enjoy. Hopefully, that’s what happens!
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 premieres March 24th on Disney+ from Marvel Studios.
