Daniel Day-Lewis’ Anemone Trailer Sees Him Paired With Sean Bean In Tense Thriller

Daniel Day-Lewis, renowned for his exceptional acting skills, is frequently lauded as one of the greatest actors to have graced the silver screen. Despite not being particularly prolific due to his meticulous role selection, he has spent decades shining brightly in the film industry and earned six Academy Award nominations between 1990 and 2018, winning three. His absence from films since his retirement eight years ago has been keenly felt, with his last performance being in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread. However, fans can rejoice as he returns to the big screen in the upcoming 2025 movie Anemone, and they can now catch a glimpse of it through the film’s first trailer.

Last October, we discovered that Daniel Day-Lewis was working on a new film, which wasn’t entirely unexpected given that it was a deeply personal project for him. Together with his son Ronan Day-Lewis (who is also the director), Daniel co-wrote the script for the movie titled “Anemone“. This film delves into family dynamics, primarily revolving around two adult brothers.

Located in the north of England, the narrative unfolds around a man (Sean Bean) seeking reconciliation with his long-lost brother, a recluse residing deep within the forest (Daniel Day-Lewis). Their reunion sets the stage for them to mend old hurts stemming from a significant event in their past. Joining them are Samantha Morton and Samuel Bottomley as part of the ensemble cast.

Daniel Day-Lewis, known for his acting roles since 1971 in films like “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” earned his first credited part in a film with the Oscar-winning “Gandhi” in 1982. The upcoming movie “Anemone” will be the second time he’s been credited for work behind the scenes, having produced the original score for “The Ballad of Jack and Rose” in 2005. This is his debut as a screenwriter.

Ronan Day-Lewis is making his first attempt at both writing and directing a feature film with Anemone, although he has previously dabbled in these roles; he directed a short movie called The Sheep And The Wolf back in 2018, and more recently, he helmed the music video for Sargasso’s hit song “Snow And Sun” in 2019.

The movie produced by Focus Features is all set for a theater release on October 10. Before that, however, the film titled Anemone will create buzz on the festival circuit, with its world premiere happening at the New York Film Festival from September 26 to October 13. Following a successful run there, it’s likely that the movie will become a talking point during awards season.
