While season 14 of Chicago Fire marks a significant change for the One Chicago franchise, the show isn’t ending. The recent season has brought big personal and professional challenges for the firefighters of Firehouse 51, and a major plot twist will be reversed to prepare for season 15.
As a huge Chicago Fire fan, I already knew from the previews that Matthew Pascal was coming back, even after his tough exit from the CFD. They definitely weren’t shy about showing a massive fire was coming too! It’s also a bit bittersweet knowing this will be Andrea Newman’s last episode as showrunner – Victor Teran is taking over from here on out, which will be a big change.
Good news for fans: NBC has already made a decision about the future of Chicago Fire. It’s traditionally the One Chicago show most known for ending seasons with suspenseful cliffhangers, and it airs on Wednesday nights between Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. For years, Fire has consistently held the middle time slot, with the only exceptions being when episodes crossed over and swapped its place with Med.
Although a huge crossover event isn’t officially planned yet, the series has been consistently successful since it began with Fire in 2012. By 2026, the show is expected to reach a significant episode count, a milestone currently achieved by only two other dramas within the Dick Wolf television franchise.
NBC’s Chicago shows will be off the air for the summer, but fans have a sneak peek at what’s coming after the season finale.
Chicago Fire Season 15 Has Been Confirmed By NBC
As a big fan of the One Chicago universe, I was thrilled to hear that Chicago Fire is coming back for a fifteenth season! NBC renewed it back in March 2026 for 21 episodes, which means we don’t have to worry about a summer break filled with uncertainty. Even better, all three shows – Fire, P.D., and Med – are confirmed for the 2026-2027 season, and they’ll be staying in their usual time slots. It’s a huge relief to know the whole franchise is secure for another year!
With its renewal for season 15, Chicago Fire will reach an impressive 300 episodes, building on its current total of 295. While still behind other long-running shows like Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order (both with over 500 episodes), it’s a significant achievement for the series.
Following a special 200th episode that brought back a beloved character, the team behind Chicago Fire has the off-season to plan something truly exciting for the show’s 300th episode. With 21 episodes ordered for the next season, fans won’t have to wait long – the milestone will arrive early in season 15.
When New Episodes Of Chicago Fire Will Release
Despite the recent cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime, the One Chicago shows are gearing up for strong new seasons. NBC has confirmed that Chicago Fire will be back this fall, and One Chicago Wednesdays will continue to air in primetime.
While an official date is still to come, it looks like new shows will be arriving in early fall. NBC has confirmed that Line of Fire, starring Peter Krause after his role on 9-1-1, will start airing on Mondays in September. The first One Chicago Wednesday of the fall season is also expected in September.
NBC is keeping its ‘One Chicago’ nights as they are for the upcoming TV season. Everything else is changing: ‘Line of Fire’ will air Mondays after ‘The Voice,’ Tuesdays are reserved for NBA games, ‘The Traitors’ will air on Thursdays with ‘Law & Order,’ and ‘Newlyweds’ will follow ‘Happy’s Place’ on Fridays.
What Chicago Fire’s Season 15 Story Could Be
Season 15 of Chicago Fire might have a slightly different feel, as a new showrunner is taking charge. However, Victor Teran has been with the show as a writer and producer since 2021, which provides some continuity. Fans might get major plot resolutions during the summer break, as the One Chicago shows often make cast changes between seasons.
As a longtime fan of Chicago Fire, I’ve definitely been through the emotional rollercoaster with Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide’s relationship! After that frustrating fake-out with their pregnancy at the beginning of season 14, I’m really hoping season 15 finally gives them the family they deserve. It’s been a long journey, and I’d love to see them become parents.
It would be compelling to watch Severide and Kidd navigate becoming parents, especially if he takes the OFI position and she continues her dangerous work at Firehouse 51. After she announced her pregnancy last season, many viewers expected her to reduce her risky activities, similar to what Dawson did when she was pregnant with Casey’s child.
Senator Cruz and his wife are expecting twins this fall, which will undoubtedly add to his already busy life. However, given the dramatic storylines often seen on NBC’s Wednesday night shows, particularly within the ‘One Chicago’ universe, things rarely go exactly as planned, and a pregnancy could easily lead to unexpected challenges.
Dom Pascal showing up right before the season finale suggests Dermot Mulroney might return as a regular in season 15, instead of just a guest appearance on Chicago Fire. Also, fans are hoping the complicated relationship between Violet, Vasquez, and Novak will be resolved before the end of season 14.
You can still enjoy the first 14 seasons of Chicago Fire by streaming them on Peacock.
