Captain America: Brave New World Disney+ Streaming Success

Despite a lackluster performance in theaters nearly a year ago, the movie is now a surprising hit on streaming services. While it got the Marvel Cinematic Universe off to a rough start this year, it might not be the flop some reviewers initially thought.

Okay, so I’ve been checking, and Captain America: Brave New World is seriously blowing up! I’ve seen on FlixPatrol that it’s one of the most-streamed movies globally right now. Here in the US, it’s a Disney+ exclusive, and it’s already the thirteenth most-streamed movie of the year – it was even in the Top 10 for a long time in 2025. And it’s not just here, either! It’s been hanging out in the Top 10 on Google TV for a full twenty-seven days and still going strong as of today. Definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already!

In Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie steps into the role of Sam Wilson as the new Captain America, following Steve Rogers. He faces challenges from several enemies, notably President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. When the villain known as the Leader’s plan transforms Ross into the powerful Red Hulk, Sam must confront the president as he wreaks havoc on Washington, D.C.

The fourth Captain America movie received mixed reviews and didn’t perform well at the box office. Brave New World was Marvel’s lowest-rated film in 2025, earning $415 million worldwide. The Fantastic Four: First Steps was more successful, bringing in $521 million globally.

Captain America: Brave New World Is Extremely Underrated

The movie came out earlier this year, but critics haven’t been very impressed, giving it a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This makes it one of only three Marvel Cinematic Universe films to receive a negative rating, following Eternals and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Despite this, many believe the critics are being unfair to the Captain America sequel.

Okay, so Brave New World isn’t perfect – the story feels a little patched together, and some of the effects aren’t amazing. But honestly, I think it’s way better than a lot of critics are saying! Anthony Mackie is fantastic as Sam Wilson, and it’s really compelling to watch him grapple with doing what’s right versus what his country expects. Ultimately, the movie really sells me on Sam taking over as Captain America, and I’m genuinely excited to see where his story goes next. It proves he’s more than capable of filling Steve Rogers’ shoes!

Viewers on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 75% approval rating, significantly higher than the critics’ score. Even though reviews weren’t great, the movie continues to be popular on streaming services almost a year after it came out, showing that it connected with Marvel fans.

The response to Captain America: Brave New World offers a glimmer of hope for Marvel Studios, which has been facing a pattern of inconsistent reviews and declining ticket sales. Despite needing to regain audience trust, the situation isn’t as critical as some reports suggest. While not perfect, the film is far from a failure, and considering its difficult production process, it’s surprisingly enjoyable.

You know, I have a feeling people will look back on Captain America 4 differently in a few years. If Marvel can somehow connect what happens in it to Avengers: Doomsday, it could actually become a really popular movie and totally change how we see it – maybe even save it from being considered a misstep for the MCU.
