Ben Stiller Sets New Apple TV Crime Series With Major Difference From Severance

Ben Stiller is back with a new crime show on Apple TV, and this one will be quite different from his hit series, Severance.

Ben Stiller is a key creative force behind the popular and award-winning Apple TV+ show, Severance. The series has earned an impressive 41 Emmy nominations over its first two seasons, including recognition for Stiller himself as a director and a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. He’s now developing a new series with Apple TV+, extending his relationship with the platform beyond the planned third season of Severance, which is anticipated to arrive in 2027 or 2028.

Ben Stiller is working with Mike Judge (creator of Silicon Valley), Steve Hely (Common Side Effects), and Dave King (Parks and Recreation) on a new comedy series called Protective Custody. Apple TV is developing the show and hopes to order a full season.

Unlike Severance, where he’s a director and executive producer, Ben Stiller will star in and executive produce Protective Custody. This marks his first time leading a comedy series, and the show centers around a former financier accused of large-scale fraud. While awaiting trial, he’s placed in protective custody and has to deal with prison life, try to rebuild his image, and face the fallout from his actions.
